REASONS TO WATCH…

  • Who can fill the Main Event Veer Void?

(1) GREG LESLIE vs. APOLLO CREWS (w/ Commander Azeez)

Crews opened up by battering Leslie with forearm strikes. Leslie managed an arm drag, then Crews took charge again. He leveled Leslie with a short clothesline and covered for a one-count. Crews applied a rough chin lock and ground his wrist tape across Leslie’s eyes. Crews hit a senton over the top rope and made another cover. Leslie kicked out, and Crews went back to the chin lock.

Crews slammed Leslie onto his back, then climbed the corner to posture to the fans who responded with boos. Leslie landed three shots then ran the ropes, but Crews was waiting with a standing drop kick. Crews applied another chinlock. Crews suspended a vertical suplex, but the delay allowed Leslie to slip free. He monkey-flipped Crews and surprised him with a cover and one-count. Crews hit another drop kick, then a Samoan drop – this was good for the three-count.

-After the match, Crews encouraged Azeez to punish Leslie. Azeez obliged by slamming Leslie to the mat with a modified uranage.

WINNER: Apollo Crews by pinfall in 3:50.

(Meyers’s Analysis: I was about to write that Azeez’s cheating wasn’t needed for Crews to win against enhancement talent – and it wasn’t – though they kicked into heel-mode after the match ended. Standard match, though Leslie got in more offense than I would’ve predicted.)

(2) T-Bar vs. Shelton Benjamin (w/ Cedric Alexander)

The men locked up and T-Bar powered Benjamin into a corner, then backed off and posed. They grappled a bit more in the middle of the ring, then T-Bar leveled Benjamin with a shoulder block. Benjamin got to his feet and landed some elbow strikes, ducked a clothesline, and knocked T-Bar down with a flying reverse elbow. T-Bar rolled out to ringside, holding his jaw. Alexander yelled at T-Bar to “Get back in the ring! You know what happens next!” Benjamin joined them at ringside and struck T-Bar a couple times before rolling him back into the ring.

Benjamin climbed the top rope and took T-Bar down with a flying clothesline, then covered him for a two-count. Benjamin ran at T-Bar near the ropes, and T-Bar ducked and dumped him over the top rope. Benjamin landed on the apron, but T-Bar ran the opposite ropes and knocked Benjamin down to the floor with a big boot. We cut to break.

T-Bar had control of Benjamin with a chin lock in the ring. Benjamin battled out with elbow strikes, but T-Bar smashed him with a reverse elbow and covered for two. Alexander pounded the mat rhythmically to encourage Benjamin. It didn’t help, as T-Bar began choking Benjamin against the middle rope. He punished Benjamin in the corner with his right boot, then dragged him to the middle and covered for two. T-Bar applied a chin lock.

Benjamin broke free again but this time hit a spinning heel kick. Both men were stunned on the mat. They slowly got up at the same time and Benjamin landed a few blows before dumping T-Bar with a back body drop. He splashed T-Bar in the corner. Benjamin reversed out of a suplex and hit a neckbreaker, then covered for two. Benjamin was the first to his feet and urged T-Bar to join him. He did, and T-Bar slammed Benjamin to the mat and covered for two.

T-Bar set up for a choke slam, but Benjamin escaped and hit a release German suplex. He followed up with a knee strike in the corner, then the Paydirt in the middle of the ring – good for the three-count.

WINNER: Shelton Benjamin by pinfall in 7:50.

(Meyers’s Analysis: Decent action, 50/50 back-and-forth.)

SHOW SCORE (0-10): 7.0
