SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

The TNT Championship changed hands during the tapings for Saturday’s AEW Battle of the Belts 2. AEW taped Battle of the Belts 2 after Friday’s live episode of Rampage.

Wrestling Inc. is reporting that in the Battle of the Belts 2 opening contest, Sammy Guevara defeated Scorpio Sky to win the TNT Championship. This is Guevara’s third run with the championship. The report indicates that Guevara came to the ring with Tay Conti and received a partially negative reaction from the audience. Conti got involved in the match after Ethan Page and Dan Lambert interfered. Her involvement brought out Paige VanZant, who fought with Conti around the ring. Guevara used a low blow to secure the victory and the championship.

Other matches on AEW Battle of the Belts 2 include Thunder Rosa vs. Nyla Rose for the AEW Women’s World Championship in Rosa’s first title defense since winning the belt from Britt Baker on AEW Dynamite in March. The ROH World Championship will be the line during the show as well. Jonathan Gresham will defend his championship against Dalton Castle.

Battle of the Belts is a quarterly program on the AEW calendar. The show was added to the company content slate when Tony Khan renegotiated the company’s television deal with WarnerMedia. That renegotiation also included adding Rampage and moving the flagship Dynamite show to TBS. Rampage premiered in August of 2021 and the move to TBS took place at the start of 2022. The first Battle of the Belts took place on January 8 of this year and featured Britt Baker vs. Riho for the AEW Women’s World Championship and Sammy Guevara vs. Dustin Rhodes for the Interim TNT Championship.
