Shad Gaspard to be honored at WWE Hall of Fame ceremony

The WWE will honor Shad Gaspard at this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Gaspard will be the recipient of the 2022 Warrior Award. Gaspard died in a swimming accident in 2020. He, his son, and other swimmers encountered and were grabbed by an riptide in California. Gaspard directed rescuers to save his son before him, but he was then taken under by a massive wave. Three days later, Gaspard’s body was found on the shore. The rescuers successfully saved his son. Gaspard was 39 years old.

Shad Gaspard is known for his work as part of the Cryme Tyme tag team in WWE. Gaspard made his WWE debut in October of 2006. Cryme Tyme was released in 2007, but then brought back to the company for a second run in 2008. Gaspard was then released again in 2010. Notable feuds include programs with Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase, The Highlanders, Cade & Murdoch, World’s Greatest Tag Team, and others.

The Warrior Award was created to honor the late Ultimate Warrior. Ultimate Warrior died of a heart attack in 2014 and this honor recognizes those that embody the spirit of Ultimate Warrior. Warrior’s wife Dana presented the award to the winner on WWE’s behalf. Past Warrior Award winners include Titus O’Neil, Eric LeGrande, Connor Michalek, Jarrius Robertson, and others.

The 2022 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place after Smackdown on April 1 in Dallas, Texas. The Undertaker headlines the class of 2022, but Vader and Queen Sharmell will also take their place in the hall this year. Vince McMahon will induct The Undertaker and Booker T will induct his wife Sharmell.
