[HOUR ONE]
-They cut to the live audience inside the arena cheering as usual Saturday night (Collision) host Tony Schiavone introduced the show and noted they were in Australia
(1) JON MOXLEY vs. KONSUKE TAKESHITA – AEW Continental Title match
Schiavone noted this is Moxley’s first defense. The bell rang 4 minutes into the hour. Excalibur and Schiavone discussed that Takeshita feels like an odd fit for The Don Callis Family, but he keeps getting pulled back into the group. After some exchanges in the ring, Mox leaped at Takeshita at ringside. He overshot and this grazed him and landed on the floor past him. They battled at ringside where Takeshita eventually took over. Fans seemed split with some chant for each wrestler early.
Back in the ring at 6:00, Mox caught Takeshita with a piledriver. Mox lifted him and chopped him in the corner. Takeshita landed some side elbow strikes to the jaw. Mox thumbed him in the eyes and tossed him to the ring apron. Mox then dropkicked Takeshita to the floor. They cut to a break at 7:00. [c]
Back from the break, Takeshita was in control. He powerbombed Mox out of the corner. A fan held up a sign that said, “Too Many Belts!” (Amen!) Moxley stomped on Takeshita on the ring apron. Back in the ring, Takeshita blocked a Mox kick and landed an exploder suplex at 15:00 and then a running knee for a two count. A minute later, Moxley landed a Death Rider for a near fall.
As they continued to battle, the ring announcer said one minute remained. Mox hit a running lariat with 30 seconds left. Takeshita fired back with big swing for a one count, then a running knee to the back of Moxley’s head for a two count. The bell then rang. Schiavone said the (booing) fans were understandably disappointed, but not more than Takeshita. Takeshita looked despondent, but Moxley also slapped the mat in frustration.
Moxley asked to speak to the ref. Mox pile-faced Takeshita. Takeshita fired back and landed his Raging Fire to leave Mox lying mid-ring.
WINNER: Time limit draw in 20:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: Exactly the steady hard-hitting back-and-forth battle you’d expect with these two. The draw is fine for me as I wouldn’t want to sacrifice Takeshita in this match with a clean loss, but that’s the only other choice if they want to keep the belt on Mox since interference is banned in the Continental Classic Division.)
-The announcers hyped the MJF vs. Brody King main event and the rest of the undercard. [c]
-A vignette aired on Thekla beating Kris Statlander with post-match comments from both. Thekla said everyone would remember this is the night AEW became toxic. Statlander said was everything she wanted and now she’ll be everything they don’t. “Karma isn’t a bitch, it’s a cosmic killer,” Statlander said.
(Keller’s Analysis: Too many platitudes, but the delivery from Statlander in particular felt more sports-like and less performed.)
(2) BABES OF WRATH (Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale) vs. PENELOPE FORD & MEGAN BAYNE – AEW Tag Team Title match
As Ford & Bayne made their entrance, clips aired of their Eliminator win over the champs to earn this title match. The bell rang 35 minutes into the hour. Schiavone noted that Cameron had friends and family in attendance. Cameron charged at Bayne when the bell rang. All four brawled as the ref watched and flailed his arms. Willow dropped Cameron onto Ford’s lifted knees. The heel duo of Ford and Bayne then took over. Willow fought back with a dropkick to take both heels down. They cut to a partial double-box break at 3:30. [c/pdb]
Back from the break, Ford moonsaulted off the top rope onto Willow at ringside as Cameron battled back against Bayne inside the ring. All four battled in the ring a minute later. Bayne crashed into Ford. Willow kicked Bayne to the mat. Then she landed a running senton with Cameron piggy-backing on Willow for a two count. Cameron then leaped off the top rope with a Swanton, but Bayne rolled out of the way and tagged in Ford.
Ford gave Cameron a stunner, then Bayne landed a flying clothesline. Bayne then leaped through the ropes and tackled Willow. Ford leaped off the top rope, but Cameron moved. The director missed that spot. Cameron then leveraged Bayne’s shoulders down for the win.
WINNERS: Cameron & Nightingale in 11:00 to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles.
(Keller’s Analysis: A solid match that didn’t overstay its welcome. The crowd seemed modestly into it.)
-After the match, Lena Cross attacked Cameron. Excalibur said she faced Statlander on Collision last year. Bayne and Ford then stood with her in the ring, seemingly acknowledging an alliance. [c]
-Excalibur plugged AEW All In London ticket sales.
-A brief video package set the stage for the match with soundbites from both.
(3) “HANGMAN” ADAM PAGE vs. ANDRADE EL IDOLO (w/Don Callis)
Andrade made his entrance first, then Hangman. Callis joined in on commentary. The bell rang 54 minutes into the hour. Hangman took Andrade down early and set up a Buckshot Lariat. Andrade kicked Hangman, though. Hangman shoved Andrade into the ropes. Andrade held on and lounged on the middle rope with a smile. Hangman kicked him in the face.
Andrade knocked Hangman down and then a woman in the crowd swooned over Andrade. Andrade took a selfie with her. Callis said they had to move Andrade’s hotel to a secret location to keep the women away. Hangman recovered during this time and hit Andrade. He then took a selfie with the woman instead. Fans cheered. Andrade had a chance to rest during this time, but it’s not like the stakes are high in this match or anything. Hangman went after Andrade and chopped him and then threw him back into the ring.
Andrade took over at 5:00 after he drove Hangman to the mat on a middle rope springboard for a two count. They cut to a double-box break.
[HOUR TWO]
[c/db] Andrade had Hangman grounded mid-ring after the break. Andrade got in sustained offense. Hangman slingshot himself over the top rope toward Andrade, but Andrade moved. Andrade leaped at Hangman with a tornado crossbody, but he came up short. Hangman appeared to be trying to catch him. Hangman then gave Andrade a fallaway slam into the barricade.
Andrade took over back in the ring and landed running double knees and then a DDT for a two count at 15:00. Hangman countered and took over after a piledriver. Callis stood on the ring apron to distract the ref as Hangman went for a Buckshot again. Andrade went for a low kick, but Hangman blocked it and hten kicked Andrade low blow. Hangman then connected with a Buckshot Lariat for the win.
WINNER: Hangman in 17:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: Very good match. They “protected” Andrade with the finish when Callis’s distraction backfired. Not a surprise that Hangman won since it’s so likely that MJF retains his title, and a heel vs. heel match doesn’t really do a lot for either Andrade or MJF at this point.) [c]
(4) TONI STORM & ORANGE CASSIDY vs. MARINA SHAFIR & WHEELER YUTA
Storm and Cassidy came out first to Storm’s entrance theme. When Yuta and Shafir came out, they brawled into the crowd right away. The bell rang 18 minutes into the hour. Yuta battled Storm on some crates and piledrover her. She tumbled to the floor. Wheeler then turned to Cassidy in the ring as they cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
Storm and Cassidy worked together against Shafir after the break. Yuta entered and pulled his hair back and watched as Cassidy covered Shafir. He then broke up the cover at the last second. Excalibur speculated he was going to let her get her head shaved.
Shafir put Cassidy in an anklelock. Storm put Yuta in a chicken wing. Shafir told Yuta not to tap and she let go of Cassidy. Storm dropped Yuta so she could battle Shafir. They exchanged strikes mid-ring at 9:00.
After Cassidy leaped onto Shafir at ringside, Storm landed a hip attack on Yuta. Cassidy landed an Orange Punch. Storm then landed a Storm Zero for the pin.
WINNERS: Storm & Cassidy in 11:00.
-Excalibur said, “That disgusting, greasy hair of Wheeler Yuta will be left here in Sydney, Australia. You love to see it!” Yuta tried to leave through the crowd. Fans chanted “Bullshit!” Mox came out and met Yuta and told him to fulfill the stip. Yuta gave in. Mina Shirakawa came out with a stool and clippers. Fans chanted, “You deserve it!” Shafir held Yuta’s hand as Shirakawa took the first snippet with scissors. Yuta yelled, “Stop, you’re hurting me!” Cassidy used the clippers to shave the top of his head. Mox looked on in dismay. Luther then took some swipes with the clippers. Excalibur said they should leave it long on the sides and back and bald on top for his plane ride home. Storm shaved some more. Mox led Yuta away. Storm rolled around on the hair on the mat. [c]
(5) KYLE FLETCHER (w/Don Callis) vs. MARK BRISCOE – Ladder Match for the TNT Title
Briscoe came out first. As Fletcher came out, Fletcher told Kazuchika Okada to interfere. Okada promised. The bell rang 41 minutes into the hour. They brawled to ringside early. Fletcher yanked Briscoe off a ladder at ringside and Briscoe hit the top rope and then tumbled to the mat. Fletcher lawn-darted Briscoe into the a ladder wedge in the corner. He came up bleeding. They cut to a double box break at 5:00. [c/db]
Briscoe knocked Fletcher onto a bridged ladder and then leaped off the top rope with an elbowdrop. Briscoe set up a ladder mid-ring and climbed it. Fletcher re-entered the ring and tried to slow Briscoe. He then powerbombed him off the ladder onto another ladder leaning in the corner. The ladder snapped in half.
Fletcher bridged another ladder on the middle rope to a ladder mid-ring. He set up a superplex. They battled for the advantage there. Briscoe pildrove Fletcher and the ladder snapped. Fans chanted “Holy shit!”
Briscoe climbed the ladder. Fletcher met him up there. Fletcher set up a superplex off the top of the ladder and delivered it. Fans chanted “Holy shit!” Both were down and slow to get up. Fletcher eventually climbed the ladder. Briscoe got up and set up another ladder as Fletcher struggled to grip the belt. Briscoe punched him and knocked him down a rung. Fletcher ipped over Briscoe’s ladder and Briscoe landed on the top rope. Fletcher then pulled the belt down to win.
WINNER: Briscoe in 16:00 to retain the TNT Title. [c]
-A video package previewed the MJF vs. Brody King main event.
(6) MJF vs. BRODY KING – AEW World Title match
Brody came out first and there was some barking but no other chants. MJF then came out. They cut to a break. [c]
Formal ring introductions took place after the break. For Brody, some barks but not a huge reaction. MJF got booed as he was introduced. A “F— Ice!” chant then broke out. The bell rang 6 minutes into the hour. The chant ended and was loud enough to notice, but not so loud as to be obvious. AEW had a chance on tape delay to mute it if they wanted to or were ordered to, but since it wasn’t live, it’s not clear if in post-production the sound was turned down a bit. MJF stalled early and paced around ringside. He reentered the ring and Brody got in offense.
Brody charged the corner with a cannonball, but MJF moved and so King crashed onto his head and he grabbed his leg in pain. MJF wrapped his leg around the ringpost. MJF did a crotch chop on the ring apron and then went after Brody’s leg on the mat at 4:00.
MJF went for a sunset flip, but Brody resisted and then went for a senton. MJF moved and then applied another anklelock. They cut to a partial double-box break at 6:00. [c/pdb]
Brody eventually took over at ringside and bit MJF’s forehead at 11:00. He put MJF in a chair and charged and hit him with a crossbody. Both were down and slow to get up with Brody holding his knee. Fans sang, “Brody, Brody King… Brody, Brody King!” Brody threw MJF into the corner and went for another cannonball. This time he landed it. He scored a two count. Brody then set up a powerbomb, but MJF slipped out and applied a sleeper. Brody leaped backwards and crushed MJF under him to break his grip.
MJF landed a DDT on the ring apron. Bandido came to ringside to check on Brody and cheer for him. When MJF leaped at Brody, Brody caught hio mand delivered a running Death Valley Driver into a chair at ringside. They were both down and slow to get up. Brody barely beat a double countout by throwing MJF into the ring and then rolling in himself.
MJF pulled out his Dynamite Diamond Ring. The ref saw it took it. Brody punched MJF to the ring apron and then applied the sleeper from behind just like in their Eliminator match. MJF’s arms dropped after a second. Brody dropped him and then threw him into the ring. He then set up a Gonzo Bomb as Bandido pounded the ring apron in encouragement. MJF kicked out at two. Excalibur said no one has kicked out after that move.
MJF lowered Brody’s kneepad. Brody set up a Gonzo Bomb on the ring apron. MJF slipped free. Brody then applied another sleeper, but MJF punched his exposed injured knee. MJF then gave Brody a tombstone style faceplant onto the ring apron. MJF then gave Brody a Heat Seeker for the clean three count.
WINNER: MJF in 22:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: Really good match. No issue with the heel here getting a clean win, as he did get a little “dirty” by going after Brody’s injured knee in the lead-up to the finish.)
-Hangman came out to his music and had a staredown with MJF. Raised his belt and yelled at Hangman. Hangman wound up. MJF flinched and fell backwards. Hangman then marched to the back with a serious gameface on as the announcers plugged the Revolution PPV main event.
