– This week’s NXT opened with a highlight package on last week’s “NXT: Takeover” special. Specifically, Samoa Joe & Finn Balor winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic and the Bayley vs. Sasha Banks Iron Man match for the NXT Women’s Title match.

– NXT Women’s champion Bayley opened the show with a speech about making history at Takeover last week. Alexa Bliss, the manager of Blake & Murphy, interrupted the speech and made herself known as the next title contender.

– Last week after the Dusty Classic, Samoa Joe noted to Finn Balor that he wants a shot at the NXT Title. GM William Regal was standing by to say that it’s not that easy. Regal said he thinks everyone should get a chance. And they will determine the next title contender via battle royal. Joe disagreed, saying he has run through everyone put in front of him. Regal acknowledged Joe’s point, but said they are still having a #1 contender battle royal.

– NXT ran through backstage promos from wrestlers vowing to win the battle royal.

(1) NXT tag champions The Vaudevillains (Simon Gotch & Aiden English) beat Sawyer Fulton & Angelo Dawkins in a non-title match.

Backstage, Dash & Dawson were standing by to express a lack of respect for the NXT tag champs. They said they should be in line for a Tag Title shot, but they have to go through Enzo Amore & Big Cass first.

(2) Nia Jax beat Evie in her TV debut match. Jax used her size to over-power Evie in a methodical beat down.

– NXT re-visited the Iron Man Match between Bayley and Sasha Banks last Wednesday on Takeover.

– In a promo purported to be shot in Paris, Eva Marie said she is going away for a while.

– A gaggle of wrestlers were assembled in the ring for the #1 contender battle royal. Individual ring entrances went to Rhyno, Baron Corbin, and finally Samoa Joe.

(3) Apollo Crews won the #1 contender battle royal to earn a future NXT Title shot. The Final Four were Crews, Corbin, Joe, and Tyler Breeze. Joe big-booted Breeze over the top rope for an elimination. Joe then found himself on the ring apron, where Breeze yanked Joe off the apron to the floor for an illegal elimination, as pointed out by Corey Graves on commentary. It looks like Joe’s NXT Title chase will detour to Breeze. Down to Corbin and Crews, who hit a series of kicks before clotheslining Corbin over the top rope to the floor.
