12/21 Raw Notes – Slammy no-shows, Rollins, Heyman, Flair, Cena’s return, more

WWE presented the 2015 Slammy Awards Monday night on Raw from Minneapolis. The following newsworthy events happened on the show, including several returns and no-shows…

WWE Raw News & Notes 12/21

– WWE officially announced John Cena’s Raw TV return on next week’s show. Cena will challenge Alberto Del Rio for the U.S. Title.

Also during Raw, WWE ran a local ad in the New York/New Jersey market advertising Cena for the bonus main event next Monday at the Barclays Center.  The advertised match for the live crowd is Cena & Reigns & Ambrose vs. Sheamus & Del Rio & Owens.

– The main event of Raw was a steel cage match with IC champion Dean Ambrose beating Sheamus with help from Roman Reigns.

– Half of the Slammy Award winners did not appear on the show. The list included John Cena, Sting, Brock Lesnar (in his home market), The Undertaker, The Rock, and Ronda Rousey.

– Former WWE World Hvt. champion Seth Rollins returned to Raw TV for the first time since tearing his knee in November. Rollins won the Superstar of the Year award. (Video – Rollins post-appearance interview on WWE’s website)

– Paul Heyman returned to Raw to accept Brock Lesnar’s Slammy awards.

– Former Divas champion Nikki Bella returned to Raw TV after dealing with an injury. Nikki won Diva of the Year after WWE did a Steve Harvey swerve by first announcing Paige as the winner.

– Ric Flair appeared on Raw to announce Match of the Year, which went to Lesnar vs. Taker III at Hell in a Cell.

– Kane returned to Raw to join Team ECW against The Wyatts, who quickly dispatched Team ECW in an eight-man tag match.

– Santino returned to Raw to announce a Slammy Award.

– Announced for Tuesday’s live Smackdown: Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens for the IC Title and New Day vs. Lucha Dragons for the WWE Tag Titles.

Announced for Tuesday’s ESPNews SportsCenter segment is Big Show with The Coach.
