SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

The tangled web of WWE, UFC, and C.M. Punk has an interesting connection to Punk’s final night in WWE and his first night in UFC.

WWE held the 2014 Royal Rumble PPV in Pittsburgh, Pa. The next night, WWE traveled the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland for the post-Rumble Raw.

The January 27, 2014 Raw at the Q was Punk’s last day with the company, as he walked out of the company after getting into a heated exchange with Vince McMahon and Triple H.

Now, two-and-a-half-years later, Punk returns to the Q in Cleveland for his first UFC fight at the UFC 203 event on September 10.

Meanwhile, Punk (and Colt Cabana) are entering into the pre-trial phase of a lawsuit filed by WWE physician Chris Amann over Punk’s comments on Cabana’s podcast blasting WWE’s medical practices.

The lawsuit has a pre-trial hearing this Monday, June 27 in Chicago, attempting to set a date for the actual trial. There is also another case management date of August 23, just a few weeks before Punk returns to the scene of his WWE exit, attempting to restart his pro combat career in the same building that it ended while working for WWE.
