8/29 WWE Raw HOLT Report: Two major advertised matches don’t take place, crowd reaction to Cena-Reigns and Emma, non-Raw match results

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW HOLT REPORT
AUGUST 29, 2017
MEMPHIS, TENN. AT FEDEX FORUM
REPORT BY JORDAN, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT

-The arena was about 90 percent full. The upper deck had many empty seats.

MAIN EVENT TAPING

(1) Dana Brooke beat Alicia Fox. Decent pro-Dana chants erupted a few times.

(2) Mustafa Ali beat Ariya Daivari.

RAW NOTES

-Finn Balor received a huge pop from the crowd. That Bullet Club moment in the battle royal went almost completely unnoticed by 99 percent of the crowd by the way.

-The Roman Reigns-John Cena segment had the crowd on their feet most the time. It was very electric. Roman had more boos than Cena for sure.

-Okay, so that Pelvis Wesley segment was cringe worthy in my view. Was that even on TV? It seems like a commercial break shenanigan. Awful crowd pandering.

-The crowd as utterly confused by the Emma victory and what proceeded after. Pure silence. Awkward.

-The Women’s Title match was kind of quiet other than a few dueling chants. The crowd got more into it near the end and the crowed popped big for Nia Jax turning on Bliss.

BIGGEST POPS: Finn Balor, Roman-Cena

LEAST HEAT: Emma’s victory.

DARK MATCH

(1) Finn Balor beat Bray Wyatt.

OTHER NOTES: WWE advertised Samoa Joe vs. John Cena and Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman during prominent TV and radio advertising to help sell tickets to the event. Neither match took place. Samoa Joe is reportedly out with a knee injury, as reported earlier. WWE did not acknowledge the major change in the advertised line-up with the crowd, and instead they were given a completely different main event.
