The following is the latest in a new series of weekly in-depth articles exclusive to PWTorch which will help put in perspective major wrestling promotions with a weekly overview, looking at news and roster developments, results, future line-ups, social media activity, key interviews, plus a timely commentary at the end. We will be featuring similar features on other promotions each week and each will be updated weekly.

•Top Stories of the Week

  • The NWA/ROH Crockett Cup happened on 4/27. Please see a full recap below.
  • It has been reported that Lucha Underground has sent a cease and desist to ROH and NWA to stop using Willie Mack. It had been earlier reported that Lucha Underground had let all talent out of their current contracts. If this is true, then that sullies that narrative.
  • nZo had a mildly viral video talking about ROH. If you’re into that sort of thing.

•Social Media Scene

Below is this week’s round-up of social media posts from ROH personalities.

The first intergender Tag Team Champions?

Felt cute, might defend later.

Dalton and I are on the same page.

•Closing Commentary

This week I want to talk about the differences that I noticed in this week’s episode of ROH. This was the first episode from the Pittsburgh TV tapings. This is the first TV taping since the G1 Supercard and the announcement of new members of the ROH Creative Team.

I felt a small but notable difference in the presentation of characters this week. Taven was able to spend five minutes explaining his character and actually making you care about the ROH Title. Silas Young and Jonathan Gresham got a lot of development in their feud. These two guys specifically are really talented, but their matches always feel unimportant.

We also got some promo time from Kelly Klein and Lifeblood (Mark Haskins and Tracey Williams). These did not land as well as the other two examples, but it is nice that ROH seems to be trying to develop characters, and not just throw them in random matches and hope for the best.
