[HOUR ONE]
-Triangle of Madness address Toni, Harley, and Statlander, promising to fill Collision with madness. Those three women addressed The Triangle of Madness, before Toni Storm reminded Statlander about their impending match. Big Bill and Brian Kieth said they were going to crack Anthony Bowens and Max Caster’s skulls. Bowens and Caster responded but just ended up arguing with each other. FTR along with Megan Bayne and Penelope promised to beat Willow and Jet Speed and make those “bitches bow down.” Speedball, Kevin Knight and Willow promised to put the “top guys” down.
-Elton John played and they went to the actual intro video for Collision. They cut to the crowd as Tony Schiavone welcomed everyone to the show.
(1) KOTA IBUSHI vs. JOSH ALEXANDER (w/Don Callis)
Kota Ibushi’s music played to welcome Ibushi out. Josh Alexander entered with Don Callis. Don didn’t join the commentary team, electing to stand at ringside instead.
The match started five minutes into the hour with a lock up. Alexander forced Ibushi into the ropes before breaking the hold. They locked up again, with Ibushi forcing Alexander back. Ibushi landed a roundhouse and Alexander retreated to ringside.
Ibushi was distracted by Don Callis and Alexander slid into the ring and hit Ibushi from behind. Alexander took Ibushi to the mat with a side headlock. Ibushi shot Alexander off the ropes, but he came back with a shoulder block. Alexander charged Ibushi and ran into a dropkick.
Alexander rolled to the outside again and Ibushi followed him with a press over the top ropes onto Alexander at ringside. Ibushi landed some kicks on Alexander at ringside before he caught Ibushi’s leg and slammed it into the ringpost. Alexander followed up by planting Ibushi on the floor with a DDT as they went to commercial. [c]
They returned from break with Alexander in control, stomping on Ibushi in the center of the ring. Ibushi fought back, but Alexander powered him back into the corner. Ibushi leapt over Alexander and then caught him with a powerslam. Ibushi went for a dragon suplex, but Alexander fought most of the way out of it, so Ibushi settled for a German suplex.
Ibushi landed a combination of strikes, but Alexander caught a kick attempt. Alexander hit the ropes and ran into a flying roundhouse from Ibushi. Ibushi connected with a standing moonsault into the pin, but Alexander kicked out at two.
Ibushi went for a powerbomb, but Alexander rolled through and converted it into a standing ankle ock. Ibushi rolled his way out of the hold. Alexander got Ibushi onto his shoulders and slammed him down with a torture rack into a powerbomb. Alexander made the cover, but only got a two count.
Alexander went for the top rope and leapt off, but Ibushi sidestepped Alexander and connected with an enzigrui followed by a half and half suplex. Ibushi followed up with running low knees and went for the pin, but Alexander kicked out at two.
Alexander sidestepped a pump kick attempt in the ropes and then landed a right cross. Alexander picked Ibushi up and slammed him down onto the apron. Alexander got a running start and executed a crossbody the knocked Ibushi off of the apron. Ibushi returned to the ring where Alexander hit a big lariat. Alexander made the cover, but Ibushi kicked out at two.
Alexander set Ibushi onto the top turnbuckle and climbed up with him. Alexander attempted to get Ibushi onto his shoulders, but Ibushi slipped off and crashed to ringside. Alexander tumbled behind him, and Ibushi appeared to have been legitimately injured.
Since this was pre-recorded, I looked it up and he apparently broke his femur on the fall. The ref had no choice but to count Ibushi out.
WINNER: Josh Alexander in 14:00 by countout
-After the match, Callis got on the microphone with “something important.” Mark Davis made his return and attacked Ibushi on the outside. Kenny Omega’s music hit out of nowhere. Kenny slammed a trash can into Alexander and then clotheslined Mark Davis out of the ring. Kenny lined up a V Trigger on Alexander, but Davis dragged him out of the ring to safety.
(White’s Take: I was excited to get Ibushi on Collision, as he’s been absent from AEW for so long. Sadly, it looks like he will return to absence for the foreseeable future. Nice surprise to get a Kenny Omega appearance as well, as those are exceedingly rare on the humble Collision.)
-They went to a video of Mark Briscoe addressing Fletcher ahead of their TNT title match at WrestleDream. They showed highlights of their feud so far as Briscoe said he wants to put gold around his waist. He closed by saying he’ll drag Fletcher into deep water and he hopes he won’t drown. [c]
-They returned from commercial into a video that ran down Hangman and Samoa Joe’s upcoming match, with their promos from Dynamite playing almost in their entirety over the video.
(2) BRYAN KEITH & BIG BILL vs. ANTHONY BOWENS & MAX CASTER
Bryan Keith and Big Bill made their entrance to what I assume is their music. Anthony Bowens entered holding several framed magazines that feature him on the cover. Caster entered next, only bringing his trademark as the best wrestler alive. He triaed to get his awkward chant going, not particularly successfully.
The match started with Caster and Keith 29 minutes into the hour. Bowens tagged himself in, followed by Caster doing the same. Caster took Keith down with a shoulder block and got his chant going a little better.
Bowens tagged himself again and locked up with Keith. Bowens dropped Keith with a running shoulder block and a pair of kicks followed by a floating over DDT. Meanwhile, Caster got his chant going again, much to the chagrin of Bowens.
Bill tagged in, and Bowens immediately tagged Caster in. Caster didn’t want any either. They ragged back and forth and argued about who would fight Bill. Eventually Bill hit an avalanche on Caster in the corner and a pair of uppercuts.
Caster ducked a clothesline and went for a sunset flip, but couldn’t get Bill over. Caster made the blind tag to Bowens and then caught Bill with an eyepoke. Bowens took advantage and landed his over -the-top Famouser.
Bill and Keith rolled out of the ring, and it looked like Bowens and Caster might reunite for a scissoring. But Bill dragged Bowens out of the ring and dumped him over the rail into the crowd. Keith attacked Caster from behind and then Bill joined in. They double teamed Caster as they went to break. [c]
Back from break, Keith had Bowens in a side headlock, but Bowens powered his way out of it and connected with a right hand. Bowens dodged a kick and then hit a back eblow on Keith. Bowens didn’t want to tag Caster, but Keith hit a kick and Caster tagged himself in.
Caster knocked Keith out of the ring and delivered a big chop on the outside before getting his chant going yet again. Caster went for another chop, but Keith ducked it and Caster chopped the ringspost.
Back in the ring, Caster caught Keith off the ropes and got him up into a sudden Death Valley Driver. Caster went to the top rope, but Bowens tagged himself in. They argued briefly before Keith knocked Bowens into Caster. Keith rolled Caster up for a two count, but he kicked out, forcing Keith out of the ring.
Caster and Bowens went back to arguing in the ring, nearly coming to blows. Bill charged I, but Caster ducked him and Bowens backdropped him out of the ring. Bowens landed the Mollywhop on Keith and made the cover for the win.
WINNERS: Anthony Bowens and Max Caster in 11:00
(White’s Take: Tag team partners that don’t get along isn’t anything new, but I’m still not sure if anyone wants to see The Acclaimed reunite. Caster still has an innate charisma while Bowens is still silky smooth in the ring, but there still has to be a better use for both guys.)
-The Bang Bang Gang were backstage with Ace Austin. They said they were happy to be in Jacksonville before being interrupted by a raging Bryan Keith and Big Bill. They had words and talked over each other for a while until Bill and Keith left.
(3) TAYJAY (Anna Jay & Tay Melo) vs DREAM GIRL ELLIE & CAROLINA CRUZ
Anna and Tay made their entrance, while their opponents were already waiting in the ring. The bell rang to start the match 43 minutes into the show. Anna beat Carolina into the corner before tagging Tay in and hitting a double team knee to the gut.
Carolina escaped a slam attempt from Tay and tagged Ellie in. Tay met her with a stiff forearm and tagged Anna back in. Anna hit a snapmare and Tay followed up with a running knee. Anna hit a flipping neckbreaker on the mat and went for the pin, but Carolina broke it up.
Tay entered and brawled into the corners. Tay and Anna met in the middle and hit Carolina and Ellie with a pair of superkicks. Anna hit a running spin kick in the corner on Ellie and Tay followed her in with a pump kick. Anna got Ellie up into a Gory special and spun her out into a knee from Tay. Tay made the cover and got the win.
WINNERS: TayJay in 2:00
-The Conglomeration was backstage where Kyle O’Reilly said he got “out-Kyled.” Orange Cassidy said that normally Mark Briscoe would introduce a word of the day, but he’s on the farm preparing for his match with Fletcher. Roderick Strong called out Jon Moxley, saying he doesn’t like him and he isn’t as tough as he thinks he is. Willow said she supports them, but has to go get ready for her match. Cassidy told her to “do the thing.” She then made like Mark Briscoe yelling incoherently and barking.
(White’s Take: Arguably, Conglomeration segments only work when Mark Briscoe is around to secrete enthusiasm. I say arguably because, even then they don’t really work for me. Meanwhile, it seems like a group of goofs, which is on brand for Orange Cassidy, but I hate to see Willow get drawn into this kind of silliness when she otherwise has so much potential.)
-They went to a video of The Demand, saying that anyone who crosses them will get put down. They went on to announce GOA taking on The Hurt Syndicate on Dynamite, and a rematch of their trios match against the Hurt Syndicate for WrestleDream. [c]
-Back from break, Nigel and Schiavone threw to a video of Darby at the end of Dynamite. They then showed video of Darby attacking Moxley at the New York City Comic Con before being dragged away by security.
-Marina Shaffir was in a stairwell to tell Darby that he’s getting in his own way. Garcia said Darby lacks structure and that “his crazy act” doesn’t work on him. Pac claimed that the Death Riders are legitimate competitors, and they refuse mediocrity. He went on to tell Darby he’s a piece of crap and an embarrassment to the industry. Moxley appeared to promise that Darby will get his face smashed in.

Toni Storm made her entrance first, in black and white in her new attire. Harley Cameron entered next and Statlander was out last and got a pretty good reaction. Toni shook hands with Statlander. Triangle of Madness made their entrance as a group.

WINNERS: Triangle of Madness in 11:00
(White’s Take: The bulk of this match was centered around Toni Storm and Kris Statlander, and that’s where it was worthwhile. Nice to see Triangle of Madness pick up the victory, as Thekla has a chaotic aura that works for her, even as Julia and Skye have been underwhelming in their roles. Harley continues to improve in the ring, but was still outclassed by the other competitors in the match.)
-Kenny Omega was backstage running down his history with Don Callis. Someone interrupted him with a knock on the door. Jack Perry entered and Kenny seemed upset. However, Jack said he’s sorry about what happened to Ibushi. He went on to say he has Kenny’s back if he wants it. Kenny was understandably not having it. -MxM entered with Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie for their “Casting Call” segment, which Nigel said is officially taking the place of Max Caster’s open challenge. Mansoor requested that everyone shut up. He went on to make fun of ring announcer Arkady Aura before she announced their opponents.
(5) MXMTV (Mason Madden & Mansoor & Johnny TV w/Taya Valkyrie) vs. LFI (Dralistico & Sammy Guevara & Rush w/The Beast Mortos)
LFI made their entrance with The Beast Mortos. MxMTV seemed like they didn’t want any part of this group as the crowd chanted for Rush. The bvell rang to start the match 21 minutes into the second hours with Dralistico Johnny TV in the ring.
Johnny took Dralistico down with an armdrag, but Dralistico came back with a thrust kick. Dralistico hit the ropes but ran into a high kick from Johnny. Dralistico landed a spinning kick. Mansoor entered and Dralistico flipped him over onto his belly before tagging Sammy in.

WINNERS: LFI in 4:00
(White’s Take: MxM and company are an irritating group begging for a beatdown, which should work for a heel faction. However, so far, their challenge has only been met by other groups of heels who destroy them. They’re not a heel group you want to see lose, they’re just a group you don’t want to see at all.)
(6) EDDIE KINGSTON vs. THE BEAST MORTOS
LFI remained in the ring as Eddie Kingston’s music hit to bring him to the ring for his scheduled match with The Beast Mortos. The crowd chanted for Eddie as the match started 26 minutes into the hour.

(White’s Take: Probably the best match so far of Eddie’s return, but still not great. Which is depressing, as The Beast Mortos is not only the most handsome lawyer on the planet, he’s also very good in the ring.)
-Lexy was backstage with Triangle of Madness. They didn’t have a chance to get a word in before Queen Aminata and Jamie Hayter blindsided all three of them. They continued to beat them down against a chain link fence until security guards broke them up. [c]

WINNERS: FTR & Megan Bayne in 15:00
(White’s Take: Good action throughout in this quintessential Collision main event. Both Willow and Bayne looked great successfully tangling with the guys as JetSpeed and FTR continue to be highlights in the tag division. Apparently, this match set up a few matches for the preshow of WrestleDream, so at least something kind of, almost, borderline newsworthy happened on Collision.)
-After the match, Bayne set Willow up for a powerbomb, but Harley Cameron charged down to the ring with a guitar neck wrapped in chain. FTR and Bayne retreated up the ramp as JetSpeed, Willow and Harley held the ring. Schiavone ran down some matches for Dynamite and WrestleDream as they went off the air.
FINAL THOUGHTS: This episode of Collision is the closest it’s gotten to a slog since I’ve been covering it. The Ibushi injury in the opening match maybe set a bad tone, but that match was surprisingly uninspired to begin with. There wasn’t anything particularly bad, but there wasn’t a whole lot of good either. It was nice to see Kenny Omega and the main event was good, as was some of the Statlander and Storm interaction in their match. Usually nothing happens but there’s good wrestling. This week nothing happened and there was fine wrestling, accentuating the show’s innate skippability.
