Triple H dropped the corporate veneer for a humanizing interview on home-state radio station Z107 in New Hampshire this week.

Hunter’s 20-minute chat was to promote the 25th anniversary of the radio station’s “Lend A Helping Can” food drive. Hunter joked that he had no idea 25 years ago that he would be in the business side of pro wrestling.

Hunter talked a lot about his family in the casual conversation with familiar radio hosts. Then, he seemed to re-assume a corporate position when discussing WWE topics.

Specifically when whether Hulk Hogan will return to WWE down the road, Hunter very corporately said Hogan has to “reinvigorate his brand and him as a human being.” Hogan also offered WWE’s perspective on why they came down hard on Hogan when his past racist rants were released publicly.

“The one thing about people in general is when someone is on top, they love to see them fall, and when they’re down, they love to see them make a comeback. Do I think he can be forgiven and make amends with the world and move forward? Yeah, absolutely,” Hunter said.

“But, for us, in that time frame, you’re putting out a message to the world on how you will tolerate things and how you’ll react to things. We did what we had to do and he’ll do what he has to do get himself back to that point.

“To me, at the end of the day, for him how he’s perceived by the world is I’m sure a whole lot more important than anything else. Re-establishing who he is as a human being is of utmost importance to him and I’m sure he’s going to do it. And when he does, we’ll go from there.”

Hunter was also asked whether there is competition with Vince McMahon since vocal fans seem to be more into the NXT product than main roster product.

Hunter replied that at the end of the day, NXT is part of McMahon’s company, so he’s just as happy as anyone else. Hunter then offered his pop music analogy for WWE’s main product trying to reach as many people as possible, while NXT is more niche-oriented appealing to a specific section of hardcore wrestling fans, like heavy metal.

“If WWE is pop music, it is the most popular type of music everywhere. It’s something everyone listens to – they won’t admit it, but it’s (popular) music. And then there are niche things and genres of music, if you are into that genre of music, it’s the best thing. Like, ‘Everything else is crap. And this is where it’s at.’ We’re giving them (hardcore wrestling fans) an opportunity to have another brand and another thing to watch and enjoy. If you’re a fan of what we do, that’s awesome. It’s (NXT) designed to fill that niche. That’s exactly what it’s designed to do,” Hunter said.
