SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

WWE star Daniel Bryan’s attempt to return to the ring was one of the top storylines from the season premiere of “Total Divas” Tuesday night on E!.

Bryan and Brie Bella were shown having a conversation back in the summer about Bryan wanting to wrestle again because that’s all he’s ever wanted to do.

Brie talked about being concerned with Bryan’s health, so she tried to help him start a new business to begin life after wrestling. However, all Bryan could focus on was getting back in the ring.

Bryan and Brie’s relationship was also tied in with John Cena and Nikki Bella’s on-again/off-again relationship that has been in-play for multiple seasons.

The episode focused on Dolph Ziggler trying to get back with Nikki, who told Cena about it over dinner. Cena passively said he would be okay with Nikki exploring her feelings for Ziggler before they move on in the relationship. In a talking head, Nikki was shown being surprised by Cena’s reaction since she thought he would be fired up or be passionate about fighting for their relationship.

Also included in the episode was footage from WWE’s trip to Japan in July. Paige was shown visiting a cat cafe in Tokyo and the episode included match footage from the “Beast in the East” Network special.

Included on the special was the match footage of the seemingly random pairing of John Cena and Dolph Ziggler against Kane and King Barrett for basically an exhibition match. This was the main event of the Network special, which made it seem like it was booked just for the purposes of the Cena-Ziggler-Nikki “Total Divas” storyline.
