WWE SMACKDOWN ON-SITE REPORT
SEPTEMBER 25, 2018
DENVER, COL. AT PEPSI CENTER
REPORT BY PORTER, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT

If you attend a live event, please send results in the format of the following report to pwtorch@pwtorch.com. Thanks!

205 LIVE TAPING

This took place before Smackdown began.

(1) Lio Rush beat Niam Dar after a Frog Splash.

(2) Hideo Itami fought Mustafa Ali to a double-countout. Ali flipped off the top rope onto Itami and they both fell out of the ring and were counted out. It wasn’t a finish you see every day.

(3) Brian Kendrick (w/Jack Gallagher, Drew Gulak) beat Tony Devine. Drew beat up Devine after the match.

OTHER NOTES

-I brought my six year old son. He went to an indy show a year and a half ago, but this was his first WWE event and he was more into it this time around. I remember my first show was around age six or seven.

-The crowd was between 4,000 and 4,500, as best I’d estimate. The whole club level and upper level were tarped off.

-The crowd was into the show. There weren’t any dull spots in any of the matches or any “boring” chants or anything like that. The crowd chanted for “R-Truth” at the start and they stayed hot for the show until Samoa Joe rang the doorbell.

-Top reaction went to A.J. Styles, and Daniel Bryan got a big pop as well. Asuka did, too. And New Day rounds out the top four reactions.

-We couldn’t tell there were commercial breaks in the matches. They kept up the pace of the action.

-The crowd was into Becky, but more into chanting “Milwaukee” during her match against Lana. The crowd was really into Becky when she attacked Charlotte backstage on the video wall. When her match with Lana was over, it seemed the crowd wanted to cheer her, but she seemed rushed to the back not giving the crowd time to get chants going for her.

-The closing segment went over well. My six year old liked the line “Daddy’s home” and the crowd was totally into it. People thought Joe was going to be there because they showed the picture of his locker room door earlier. The crowd was captivated.

-I was disappointed that Styles and Bryan didn’t actually wrestle on the show. During the commercial break, Bryan actually did some dancing with R-Truth and Carmella, so at least we got to see him engaged with the crowd.

-The whole crowd wasn’t settled in yet during the 205 Live taping. The crowd was booing Drew Gulak when he beat down the jobber.

-After Smackdown ended, I was surprised how many people stayed for Mixed Match Challenge. They aired promos in the arena for Mixed Match Challenge. After Smackdown ended, Lio Rush came out and hyped Bobby Lashley, Denver’s own, coming out. So it makes sense fans would stay around to see wrestlers they haven’t seen already who are visiting from Raw.

-We paid $65 per ticket plus fees and were in the lower bowl about seven rows up between the stage and the ring.
