SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

HITS

Shane Taylor vs. Jeff Cobb (Non-title match): This match was exactly what I thought it would be and that was a battle of two big powerful men. Both big men were able to get each other off their feet early on. In addition to Cobb showing his unreal power, Cobb also showed his tremendous agility when he hit a standing shooting star on to Taylor. Not to be outdone by Cobb, Taylor hit Cobb with a Cleveland destroyer that looked incredible especially considering the size of these two guys. Cobb kicked out though on two. Cobb eventually hits Taylor with his finisher and Cobb wins by pin. The crowd enjoyed this one and so did I. This was a really solid big man match that showcased both of these guys skills. After the match, Cobb and Adam Page confront each other in the ring. The security team gets involved but nothing happens between Cobb and Page. It was a nice little tease of what is coming between these two. I like that Cobb and Page did not go to blows here. The tease is all that is needed right now.

The Bouncers (Brian Milonas & Beer City Bruiser): Quick promo from The Bouncers talking about the upcoming tag match against Cheeseburger and Eli Isom. Bruiser seemed to be distracted during the promo. When we come back from commercial, Milonas is looking for Bruiser and cannot seem to find him. Eventually Milonas tracks down Bruiser who is sulking because he feels Silas Young left them and he is a little hurt by it. Milonas eventually gives Bruiser a pep talk where Bruiser decides he is out of his funk and the two head to the ring. Not their best promo but still good to gives these guys some promo time even if Bruiser acting dejected does not fit anything we have seem from him in the past. The strength of these two is not their promo abilities. It is the uniqueness they bring as a team in the ring to this promotion.

The Bouncers vs. Eli Isom & Cheeseburger: The Bouncers make their way to the ring as they come from the bar and not backstage. This was a pretty good match. It looked like the goal going in was to give these guys a win in the tag division and that goal was achieved. I felt like they had a good showing. The Bouncers get the win when Milonas and Bruiser hit their Last Call finisher on Isom. Burger and Isom were just way overmatched in this one.

SoCal Uncensored (SCU) In Ring Promo: Solid promo from SCU right here. Scorpio Sky came out and put over ECW and the talent that has graced the 2300 Arena. Christopher Daniels then mentioned that they have seen the error in their ways from earlier this year when Joe Koff was ready to get rid of SCU. Daniels promises that SCU will show Koff and ROH that they are different, and they will end the reign of The Briscoes as champs. Daniels announces that next week it will be The Addictions vs. The Briscoes vs. The Young Bucks for the ROH World Tag Team Titles. As SCU is exiting the ring and as they go up the ramp, The Briscoes jump them from behind. Jay Briscoe hits Daniels with a Jay Driller on the stage as we go to commercial. I like that they cleared up what Koff told them earlier in the year and that they explained the error in their ways since they were causing chaos in the promotion last year at this time. It might not be the best story, but it at least explains how we got to where we are with them being the “good guys” now. I am really looking forward to this match next week if it indeed happens. I say if because when they came back from commercial, Ian Riccaboni questions whether Daniels will be able to wrestle next week as the medical personnel check on Daniels on the ramp.

The Kingdom vs. Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham & Dalton Castle: I try my best not to look at spoilers and somehow, I successfully avoided this one. Castle was the surprise member of Lethal & Gresham’s team which was great to see. Caprice Coleman mentioned something on commentary that tied into what I said last week regarding the WOH 6-Woman Tag match. Coleman question Lethal putting himself into this when he has so many title defenses coming. I completely agree with Coleman. Although Coleman put over Lethal as being a fighter, I continue to dislike singles champions in matches like this. That said, I thought this was a good match. It was good to see Castle back at it and it was good to see Castle get the victory for his team when Castle pinned Marseglia after hitting his finisher.

MISSES

Jay Lethal Promo: This promo was fine. Lethal mentions putting an end to The Kingdom later in the hour when he, Gresham, and a mystery partner will battle The Kingdom. I really wish ROH was on at a consistent time weekly. Lethal discusses his November 11 match against Kenny King that aired the Sunday prior to this airing in my area. It just makes the entire promo feel disjointed. This is not Lethal’s fault, but it takes away from the promo in my opinion. Lethal talking about The Kingdom match fits but the King portion does not.

FINAL THOUGHTS…

The opening match with Cobb vs. Taylor may have been the shortest match of everything on the card but I thought it was the best considering you had two big men going at it. Also, Lethal and Castle played a little tug of war with the belt at the end as Castle looked to tell Lethal that he still was a title contender. It will be curious to see where they go with this within the next few months. After all, Castle’s title reign was not a bad one. He just got hit with some bad luck due to injuries and that should not be an indictment on how good or bad his title reign was. Castle certainly is a contender right away and should not be taken lightly or forgotten about now that he is back.
