[HOUR ONE]

-Michael Cole introduced the show, noting it is three hours, as they showed an aerial view of Buffalo, N.Y. Cole mentioned it will be the site of an NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and “the lousy Jets” on Sunday.

-A video package aired on the Cody Rhodes-Drew McIntyre saga.

-They showed Cody stepping out of his bus including a close-up of his hard alcohol sponsor logo on the bus. Then Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss being playful on an escalator. Then Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky, Nia Jax & Lash Legend, and Asuka & Kairi Sane one after another. Then Damien Priest followed by Aleister Black and Zelina Vega. (The three hour show is being padded in part by showing more wrestlers arriving than they typically did in the two hour version.) Then the showed an ambulance on the stage for the Priest-Black match.

-They went to Cole and Corey Graves at ringside. Graves said three hours means more Superstars, more action, and more memories for the new year. Miz then cut in front of the camera and demanded everyone’s attention. (The three-hour format is also being padded in part by giving everyone more Miz, too!)

-Miz entered the ring and said he isn’t going to let the new year start officially until he airs his grievances from 2025. He said he asked for one match on John Cena’s Retirement Tour. “Our story needed closure,” he said. “I should have been the one to tap John Cena out.” He said Cena’s off smiling and riding into the sunset while he’s stuck there in Buffalo.

He said his second grievance regards young wrestlers he offered his knowledge to, but was met with ungratefulness and entitlement. He said respect is not requested, it’s expected, not just from the rookies, but also from the fans. He said one fan in the crowd was looking like 2005 Jelly Roll.

He said his third grievance was being passed over for “Marty Supreme.”

He said his fourth grievance regarded those who shall not be named who ruined his final Smackdown of the year by bringing back “a very untrue nickname.” Fans chanted “Tiny balls!” at him. “This will not become a thing again,” he said.

He said the silver lining is that John Cena is gone. “We can’t see him and we don’t want to see him anymore,” he said. He said he is the new face of WWE. He said unlike the city of Buffalo, he actually wins championships. Fans booed. He said he’s the most decorated Superstar out there. He listed his WWE title reigns and being the first-ever Grand Slam Champion in WWE. He said he is the locker room leader, the face of WWE, and the gateway. He said he is the adult in the room which is “filled with spoiled little brats.” Randy Orton’s music then interrupted.

-Orton jogged out in a Buffalo Sabres t-shirt (the local NHL team). Miz looked concerned, but then applauded as Orton entered the ring. We’re 13 minutes into the show at this point as they played Orton’s theme all the way through. Orton winked and jogged and soaked up the energy. Fans chanted, “Randy! Randy!” Miz told Buffalo to let Orton hear them cheer. An “RKO!” chant broke out. Miz said they are the locker room leaders, the gateways, and the faces of WWE. He said they could be Miz-KO!

Orton turned to the crowd for feedback, but then hit Miz with an RKO Out of Nowhere. Fans cheered. Miz reached up for help. Orton grabbed his hand, pulled him up, wished him a Happy New Year, and gave him another RKO. Off mic, Orton said, “I’m going to bust my ass this year and get what’s coming to me.”

-Backstage, Lash & Jade talked with Asuka & Kairi. Jax and Lash said if they help them all win tonight, they’ll owe them a shot at the tag titles. Asuka said they’ll retain their titles on Monday and then gladly defend against them anytime. Kairi said they weren’t ready for the Kabuki Warriors.

-Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley made their ring entrances. [c]

-Orton talked with Cody backstage. He said he was glad he ran into him. He said out of respect, he wanted him to know that after he beats Drew McIntyre in Berlin, he’s coming for his title. Cody exhaled. Smackdown G.M. Nick Aldis walked up to Cody and said Drew is there and he cannot let Drew get under his skin. He said if he touches Orton, he’ll forfeit his title. He said he’d hate to see it. Cody said he need not worry.

(1) THE KABUKI WARRIORS (Asuka & Kairi Sane) & NIA JAX & LASH LEGEND vs. RHEA RIPLEY & IYO SKY & CHARLOTTE FLAIR & ALEXA BLISS

The end of Lash & Jax’s entrance aired. Then the Kabuki Warriors made their entrance. The four heels jumped the four babyfaces as the ref was about to signal for the bell 26 minutes into the hour. Asuka kicked away at Ripley early. Ripley tagged in Bliss and Bliss immediately flipped off the ring apron onto Asuka and Kairi at ringside. They cut to an early break just over a minute in. [c]

Bliss hot-tagged in Charlotte after the break. She landed a top rope moonsault onto Jax for a near fall at 6:00. Jax came back and scored a near fall on Charlotte. Charlotte put Asuka in a Figure-Eight in the ring, for the first time ever in perfect position for Kairi to land a top rope elbowdrop onto her to break it up. (How convenient.)

Cole noted, as Iyo rallied after a hot-tag, that she didn’t lose a tag match in all of 2025. Sky leaped off the top rope with a dropkick at Asuka and Kairi, Cole said she’s the best pound-for-pound wrestler on the planet. Lash tagged herself in by slapping Asuka’s back. She then landed a boot to the face of Sky for a near fall at 9:00.

The crowd popped when Rhea was hot-tagged in. She beat on Kairi and then sent her into Asuka. The match entered the phase of each wrestler hitting a spot on another in rapid-fire sequence. Rhea caught Kairi and headbutted her and then landed a Rip Tide. She tagged in Sky who landed her Over the Moonsault for the win. The four winners posed together in the ring.

WINNERS: Ripley & Sky & Charlotte & Bliss in 14:00.

-Aldis told Jordan Grace he has big plans for Smackdown in 2026 and he wants her to be part of them. Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre interrupted. Aldis introduced them. Green said she knows who she is and asked her to leave because they have championship matters to address. Grace told Aldis that was making her decision easier. Green then told Aldis if she saw the emotional ending of “Stranger Things” and thus she isn’t emotionally well so he shouldn’t send her out to the ring this week. Aldis asked if it would make her feel better if she were a fighting champion. She said: “I am fighting – fighting for my life on the Internet, Nick!” He suggested he strip her of her championship and impeach her. Green called him disgusting and stormed off.

-Kit Wilson made his entrance to his new entrance theme and entrance video. He would face a mystery opponent. [c]

-They showed scenes of Buffalo, N.Y. They showed some Bills at ringside. Cole implored them to please beat the Jets this weekend so the Jets get a higher draft pick.

-Kit stood in the ring and said he is redefining masculinity. He said he is in Buffalo, “home of the most toxic sports fans in America.” Zack Ryder made his entrance. Cole said the last time they saw him, he was in the Last Time Is Now Tournament. He said Aldis promised Kit he’d give him a fresh opponent.

(Keller’s Analysis: I venture to say this match would not be on the show if not for the three-hour format, so that could make you either more or less pleased with the expanded format.)

(2) MATT CARDONA vs. KIT WILSON

The bell rang 50 minutes into the hour. Cardona (no longer Zack Ryder) clotheslined Kit over the top rope seconds into the match. He then landed a wrecking ball kick before smiling. Cole said Cardona always had “a large pocket of fans” wherever he has gone. (A pocket, huh?) Kit took over a minute in.

Kit eventually landed his Tourniquet for a near fall. He followed up with a leap into the corner, but Cardona lifted his knees. He then hit his leg lariat finisher for the win.

WINNER: Cardona in 4:00.

-Cathy Kelley asked Priest backstage what it would take to end this feud. He said after six months, enough is enough and it ends tonight. He said for a year he’s tried to change him or break him. He said he’s not his creator and he doesn’t tell him what to do. He said he is going to whip his ass all over the area and stuff him into an ambulance and send him straight to the E.R. He said he’s going to fade to black.

-Cole it’s only the seventh Ambulance Match in Smackdown history. [c]

[HOUR TWO]

-Back from the break, Cole and Graves hyped the line-up for Raw on Monday night.

-The Wyatt Sicks interrupted with a spooky vignette. He said Solo Sikoa hasn’t taken into account the force he is up against. He said their family is not made up of just them, but also millions of fireflies around the world. He said when the dust settles, they will be the ones. He then laughed as the camera cut to the other members looking creepy.

-Sami Zayn made his entrance. Cole said Sami brought back the U.S. Title Open Challenge. Sami said he hasn’t been around the last couple of weeks. He said the last time they saw him on TV, it was when he was in the audience. He said he got to sit and enjoy the show like everyone one of them. He said he sat in the front row and watched Cena’s last match with his kid. He said it hit him in a way he didn’t expect. He said his son turned to him and asked him why they call Cena “the never-seen 17.” Sami said it’s because Cena has won the World Title 17 times.

He said his son asked him how many time he has won it. He said he had to tell him zero. He said his son asked him why. He said he didn’t have an answer for him. He said he understood why it would be confusing for him. He said his son has watched him wrestle so many others who had World Titles, so to him it didn’t make sense. He said he has photos with other title belts he’s held, so why is this one belt missing. He said it has made him sick how much he has talked about the World Title. He said in 2026, he is going to do it. Trick Williams’s music interrupted. Fans chanted “Whoop that Trick!” as he walked out.

Trick entered he ring and said that the sexiest and most entertaining Superstar has arrived. He said he and Sami haven’t been introduced. He said he has many nicknames, but he can call him Trick Williams. He said he’s what you get when you combine Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, and Mike Tyson. He said Aldis called him and told him that Smackdown needed the pizazz only he can bring.

When Sami began to speak, Trick said he wasn’t done talking. He said he can take off his shades and coat and he’s still 6-5, 250 pounds of grown ass man. He said Aldis believes they need someone who can win the World Title and look the part. He told Sami he is there to become World Champion. He said they’re not the same. He said it doesn’t take him 20 years to get an opportunity, and he’s not someone who is going to almost be champion.

Sami asked if he can talk now. Trick said yes. Sami said he’s watched his career and he has the tools, but he has yet to be humbled. He asked if he’s the first guy to look good or walk through the ropes and say they’re going to skip the queue and win the World Title. Sami said he has no problem teaching him a thing or two about what it means to be humbled. He shoved the mic in his chest.

(Keller’s Analysis: I like seeing Sami back and declaring his goal to become World Champion. Nice opening segment for Trick, also. Basic and well-done segment.)

-Graves and Cole commented on clips of Carmelo Hayes beating Ilja Dragunov last week for the U.S. Title.

-Backstage, Dragunov wished Hayes a Happy New Year. He said he wanted to fight the best version of the best and he gave that to him. He said the outcome wasn’t what he expected or wanted, but there are worse things in life than losing to Him. He asked if he plans to continue the Open Challenge. Hayes said after he takes care of Johnny Gargano, yes, he’ll keep the lights on for him. The camera followed Hayes as Dragunov walked away. Hayes walked up to Miz and asked what was up. Hayes thanked Miz because he said he wouldn’t be where he is without him. Miz said he was glad he came to his senses. Hayes thanked him for finally leaving him alone because he’s been better ever since.

-Gargano made his ring entrance, accompanied by Candice LeRae. [c]

(Keller’s Analysis: With three hours to work with, there should be time to hear from the champion and challenger in traditional backstage interviews or promos to set the stage.)

-Aldis told Rey Fenix he can make 2026 his best year yet. Trick walked in and said he was disrespected out there by Sami. Fenix said something to Aldis in Spanish. Trick asked what he said. Fenix said the new guy has a lot to learn about respect. The verbal exchange escalated. Aldis told Trick maybe he does need to be taught a lesson. He told him he’ll make his official Smackdown debut next week against Fenix. Trick smiled.

(3) CARMELO HAYES vs. JOHNNY GARGANO (w/Candice LeRae) – U.S. Title match

Hayes made his entrance. Hayes ducked Gargano when he entered the ring and then knocked Gargano out of the ring. The bell rang 21 minutes into the hour. Cole said Gargano told him he has to eventually win his first WWE singles title. They cut to a break about two minutes in. [c]

Gargano was in control after the break. Hayes made a comeback and landed a springboard fadeaway legdrop. Gargano rolled to the floor. Hayes landed a running flip onto Gargano at ringside. Back in the ring, Hayes leaped off the top rope with a frog splash for a two count. Hayes sold abdominal pain afterward. Gargano countered Hayes on the top rope and landed a twisting suplex for a two count. They cut to another break at 9:00. [c]

They battled back and forth in the ring. They exchanged kick on the ring apron. Hayes then delivered a leaping DDT onto the ring apron. He threw Gargano back into the ring and leaped off the top rope. Gargano moved. They countered each other and Gargano landed a tornado DDT for a near fall at 14:00. Gargano, his nose bloodied, sat up looking frustrated. Fans chanted, “This is awesome!”

Gargano sling-shot speared toward Hayes, but Hayes blocked it and then climbed to the top rope. LeRae briefly distracted Hayes from the ring apron. Gargano then knocked him off balance and delivered a second rope Air Raid Crash for a near fall. Graves said this is where doubt creeps in for a challenger

They went into a series of moves, with Hayes landing a First 48 and Nothing But Net for the clean win. LeRae stood at ringside, arms crossed, shaking her head in disappointment and disgust.

WINNER: Hayes in 16:00 to retain the U.S. Title.

(Keller’s Analysis: Good match, as you’d certainly expect with these two. It’s good to give a clean win to Hayes in his first defense.)

-Backstage, Shinsuke Nakamura confronted Tama Tonga, then turned and left. Solo walked up and asked if everything was okay. Tama said everything is, and that it was an old chapter. He asked what the plan was for the Wyatt Sicks. Solo said next week it’ll be four-on-four, family vs. family. He said after that, they’re going to take back the tag team titles. [c]

-They showed another aerial view of Buffalo, N.Y.

-A promo vignette aired with Aleister and Zelina. Aleister said after tonight, Priest will never be the same. Zelina said it’s time to put the final nail in the coffin of Priest’s delusions.

-Cathy Kelley asked Jade Cargill backstage about the footage that aired on social media of Jade injuring Michin’s shoulder. She asked if it was intentional. Jade said: “It was, and who’s going to stop me? These women know what’s up. Michin messed around and found out and that’s on her. Injuries happen when these pigeons don’t know their place.” Grace walked up. Jade asked what she wanted. Grace said she wanted to get a good look at her potential opponents. Jade advised her to sign somewhere else because this is her show “and I’m that bitch.” Grace said, “I’m Jordan Grace and you’re definitely one of those.”

(Keller’s Analysis: Good segment for Jade there in terms of getting across her conceited persona.)

-Cody chatted with Sami backstage. He asked if he’s seen Drew. Cody said he heard what he had to say about his goal. Sami said he respects him and has always liked him. He said he thinks the world of him and was the first to congratulate him in the ring when he won the title. He said he has to understand where he is coming from. Aldis walked up to them and welcomed Sami back. Cody asked if he has seen Drew. Aldis said he doesn’t know where he is. Cody said he is heading to the ring. [c]

-An Oba Femi vignette aired.

-Cody made his entrance and asked fans what they want to talk about. He asked what it takes to win “the most sought-after belt in pro wrestling and sports entertainment.” He said he’s not the biggest, fastest, or strongest, and it shocks him these days as a second-generation wrestler that he’s no longer the youngest wrestler on the roster. He said he’d like to say what separates him isn’t his heart, but rather it’s his mentality when he approaches anyone in a WWE ring. Fans sang, “Cody, Cody Rhodes!” He paused and indulged the interruption, then stopped the song by lifting his belt in the air. (Smart trick.)

He said he arrives early at 2 o’clock and he has his belt with him because he wants everyone to see him seeing them. He said when they see him, they think the main event, the money, the bus, the jet, the suit, and the fans. He said then comes the envy. He said Drew reeks of envy. He said he’s thankful for it. He said he cannot wait for the fight with him. He said in the spirit of an arena that is incredibly important for him and at one point rallied for him, he’d tell them an even bigger secret. He said when he sits backstage and smiles, his whole superpower is that he plays dumb. He said when the Unreal cameras think they’re capturing everything, they’re playing checkers but he’s play chess.

He said what he sees when he sees Drew is lunch. He said they can call themselves the Final Boss, the Tribal Chief, The Greatest of All Time, The Game, or the Scottish Warrior, but he’s the one who calls himself The Champ. “And that does not change in Berlin,” he said.

Drew interrupted from the parking garage near Cody bus and grunted, “Oh, my dog. You’re just so predictable with your rah rah speeches, Cody.” He said he’s so predictable since he’s so old school. He said in a world of shades of gray, he’s as vanilla as it gets. He said he tried real hard to come up with the right stipulations. He said back in his dad’s day, they settled things in a three falls match, and he upped the ante with Three Stages of Hell.

He said first, a straight wrestling match. He said he knows the ref’s won’t screw him over because they know what will happen to them. Then a falls count anywhere match. And finally, “if by some miracle it’s 1-1 and we go to a third fall,” it’ll be inside an old school steel cage with no outside interference and no B.S. He said two men enter, one champion leaves. He said he’s already broken him mentally, so next week he’ll break him physically. He said that’s if he’s still champion next week. He said if he touches him this week, he’ll be stripped of the title. He said he’s going to test his self-restraint.

[HOUR THREE]

Drew pointed at Cody’s “home away from home,” the Cody Express. He said he welcomed himself inside and used his bathroom and checked out some sentimental items of Brandi and his children. He said one really stood out. He held up a framed photo of Cody with his dad Dusty. Drew said he wishes his dad could see what he has become, “but I know he’s looking up right now, truly ashamed.” He said he hopes he has a coat down there, because it’s about to get really chilly. He threw the framed photo on the ground and stomped on it.

Cody ran to the back. A line of security blocked Cody. Aldis and producers yelled at him to try to calm him. Drew showed up in the ring with the photo and a trash can. Cody ran back to the ring. Drew laughed and told him run faster. “Showtime,” he said. He then held up the photo as security held Cody back at ringside. “Don’t fall for it, Cody,” said Graves. Drew found out the hard way how slowly photo paper burns. It finally got going and then Drew dropped it in the trash can. Drew leaned through the ropes and taunted Cody and dared him to hit him.

(Keller’s Analysis: Cody was really good in the first part of that segment, asserting effectively his alpha status as the centerpiece champion. Drew was wonderful as a despicable heel.) [c]

-Graves hyped Trick vs. Rey Fenix and Solo & The MFTs vs. The Wyatt Sicks for next week.

(4) CHELSEA GREEN (w/Alba Fyre) vs. GIULIA (w/Kiana James) – U.S. Title match

Green and Fyre came out first. Then Giulia and Kiana. Cole said Green puts on a brave face, but she’s scared. The bell rang 13 minutes into the hour. Giulia kicked Green to the floor and then kicked her and threw her into the announce desk. Giulia and Fyre exchanged heated words. Green then dove through the ropes and tackled Giulia. They cut to a double-box break about 90 seconds in. [c/db]

Back from the break, Gulia had Green in a sleeper. Green escaped. They exchanged strikes mid-ring. Fans got behind Green. Green avoided a kick and landed two running clotheslines. Cole noted the fans in Buffalo were behind her. Green rammed Giulia’s head into the mat and scored a two count. She followed with an Unpretty-Her attempt, but Guilia headbutted out of it.

Green hit Guilia with a leg lariat, reminiscent of Cardona’s earlier, which Cole noted. The ref was distracted by Kiana and didn’t make a count. Fyre yanked Kiana off the ring apron. Green rolled up Giulia with a handful of tights for a two count. Green then climbed to the top rope. Giulia met her up there, headbutted her, and then delivered a double-underhook suplex followed by a Northern Lights Bomb for the clean three count. Cole said Green has been impeached.

WINNER: Giulia in 7:00 to capture the U.S. Title.

-Kelley interviewed Ripley and Sky backstage. She told Iyo her win was a statement given her title shot next week. Ripley and Sky said they’ll finally be champions together. Charlotte and Bliss entered the picture. Ripley guessed they wanted to say they are next in line after they win the titles. Bliss said they were there to wish them luck, that’s all. Charlotte said good luck, “but seriously, we’re next in line.” Bliss shot Charlotte a look. Ripley said if they want seconds, “it will be our play and your pain.”

-They went to Cole and Graves at ringside. Graves was sad about Grace losing.

-A video package previewed the Black-Priest match. [c]

-Axiom and Nathan Fraser rubbed it in to Gargano that he lost. Axiom said it’s time for Gargano to move on and grow up. He asked for his mask back. Gargano said the mask is a gift from his wife, so he should try to take it if he wants it so bad. Fraser accused Gargano of hiding behind his wife. Axiom said he’s going to ask for a match against Gargano and then beat him and take his mask back.

(5) ALEISTER BLACK (w/Zelina Vega) vs. DAMIEN PRIEST – Ambulance Match

A siren blared as they showed the ambulance. Black and Vega came out first. Then Priest. When Priest entered the ring, Black attacked him from behind. The bell rang 35 minutes into the hour. As they brawled in the ring and then up the aisle, Cole said, “This will not be a wrestling clinic, by any means.” Black opened the doors to the ambulance. Priest recovered and went after Black. Priest pulled out a gurney. Black shoved it into him and then dropped him onto it. They cut to a double-box break at 2:00. [c/db]

They fought back into the ring briefly. Priest then checked Black onto the announce desk at ringside. Black collapsed to the floor. Black shoved Priest into the ringpost. Fans chanted, “We Want Tables!” Priest picked up a chair instead and jabbed Priest in the ribs with it. He followed by putting Priest’s head in the chair opening and then kicked it. Black then jabbed him in the ribs again. Priest fought back with a chokeslam of Black on the ring apron.

Back in the ring, Priest took Black off the top rope with a huracanrana. Black managed to kick Priest. Both were down and slow to get up as they cut to another double-box break. [c/db]

Back from the break, they were fighting on the stage. Black shoved Priest into the entrance video wall with a stretcher against his throat. Zelina opened the doors to the ambulance, but Ripley was inside. Zelina fled. Ripley chased her to the ring. Fans cheered as Ripley caught up to Zelina. Ripley then gave Zelina a Rip Ride. She licked her lips and smiled as Black looked on from the stage. Fans chanted, “This is awesome!”

Priest and Black battled in the ambulance entrance. Black closed one door and nearly the other. Priest kicked Black down. He then bashed Black with a crutch. Black battled back and threw Priest into the ambulance. Priest sprayed him with a fire extinguisher. When Black stood and approached Priest again, Priest lit flash paper up against Black’s face. Black went down, covering his face in anguish.

Priest walked out of the ambulance and approached Black, but then turned and pulled out a table from right behind the entry. Priest and Black battled to the side of the stage. Black knocked Priest onto a rolling equipment case. Black stood on a barricade. Priest stood and gave Black a Razor’s Edge onto the ambulance windshield.

Priest then put Black onto the roof of the ambulance and then met him up there. He stood and looked at the crowd, and then down at the tables he rolled out from the back. He lowered his straps and then chokeslammed Black onto the tables. When the tables broke, the camera (inexcusably) was aiming at angle that showed the padding underneath the tables. Fans chanted “This is awesome!”

Priest dragged Black’s limp body over to the ambulance entrance, threw Priest inside, and then closed the doors to win.

WINNER: Priest in 24:00.

(Keller’s Analysis: Really well done Ambulance match.)
