SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Io Shirai segment – HIT: I love this new heel look of Shirai. This is a big Hit here for me as she came out and stated she does not need any friends, and she does not need any of the fans. That is all she said as she turned and left the ring. I love this as it gives her a shot in the arm that she may need to win the NXT Women’s Championship.

Velveteen Dream segment – MISS: Velveteen Dream was at his own press conference, it seemed here. While I enjoyed it, it seemed it was something put on the show to feature Dream in some way. It’s a Miss here as he has been missing on NXT TV the last several weeks. He is one of NXT’s brightest talents and should not be treading water without a feud or story.

Damien Priest vs. Blanco Loco – HIT: Priest has a good presence and his entrance is special. A squash match here that did what it was supposed to do, and that was to continue to build him up. Nothing special happened here, but it was a Hit because it served its purpose.

Breakout Tournament: Boa vs. Jordan Myles – HIT: There is no way that I could live with myself if I gave this tournament anything other than a Hit. It highlights young NXT and Performance Center prospects, and therefore is nothing but a positive thing. I’m not all too familiar with these guys, but from what I can tell they are very good technical wrestlers, and that scores points with me. Jordan Myles is a step ahead of some of these guys due to his experience. This was a pretty good match. The crowd was invested and the wrestlers had good chemistry. Not that there have been many matches in this tournament, but this was probably the best match.

Keith Lee video package – MISS: A Miss here as Lee has been in NXT for a while now, and they are still trying to convince people he is a star instead of letting him sink or swim. He is talented and has been floundering along for quite some time. It’s put up or shut up time.

The Street Profits vs. Burch & Lorcan for NXT Tag Titles – MISS: Regretfully, I have to give this a Miss. The reason is because it seems like these teams have been wrestling for three months and I’m tired of it. It’s either The Forgotten Sons or Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch that have been across the ring or interfering in matches recently. They are in need of some fresh tag teams in this division. The Street Profits are great, and they have even appeared on the most recent Raw. The match itself was great, but it felt too much like it was just filler content. I really dislike having to give a match this good a miss, but they just have to find some new tag teams to feud with.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This was a good show that was still missing the big time stars. Velveteen Dream did appear via a press conference segment. They announced Kushida in action next week, as well as Adam Cole in an NXT Championship match. The Breakout Tournament featured a great match between Boa and Jordan Myles, which was one of the strong points of the show. Damien Priest was in action in a quick highlight squash match. The main event was a really good match between The Street Profits and Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch. Overall, this was a good show and it looks like next week’s show is setting up to be a good one.
