[HOUR ONE]

-Lola Vice, Kendal Grey & Wren Sinclair, and Joe Hendry were shown at various stages of entry into the building.

(1) DARKSTATE (Osiris Griffin & Saquon Shugars & Dion Lennox) vs. OTM (Lucien Price & Bronco Nima) & MIKE SANTANA – 6-Man Tag Team Match

The TNA World Heavyweight champion from The Bronx got a great hometown ovation. Shugars faced off against Nima at the crowd chanted “TNA”. DarkState took the early advantage against Nima with quick tags, but Griffin soon got the same treatment from OTM and Santana. I never noticed before, but Shugars has some really good comedic chops, which he showed off here. OTM began destroying DarkState to the delight of the fans. Lennox clawed at Nima’s eyes, allowing the heel trio to take control before they cut to a split-screen commercial break. [c]

Mr. Clean, Burger King, T-Mobile, TurboTax, Safelite, and Domino’s entertained us on the right half of the screen while some wrestling was barely visible on the tiny screen on the left. Back to full screen, DarkState was still pounding on Nima. Price took the hot tag and thumped on each member of the opposition. Shugars broke up a pin attempt on Griffin, but Santana took an even hotter tag and cleaned house of the heels. He nailed a huge frog splash on Lennox, but only got a two-count out of it.

DarkState hit a devastating triple-team powerbomb onto Santana for a two-count that OTM broke up. Shugars and Santana continued to battle in the ring. Santana tagged in Price before clotheslining Shugars so hard it made his grandmother’s teeth rattle. He then dove onto Griffin and Lennox on the outside. OTM hit a rocking double slam on Shugars for the pin. Lennox looked infuriated after the match.

WINNERS: OTM & Mike Santana at 11:17.

(Miller’s Take: As I said earlier, Shugars was very entertaining to watch tonight with his antics. Santana was the crowd favorite, but they reacted to the hard-hitting offense of OTM, as well. Cutler James is still MIA, and DarkState’s stock is definitely spiraling downward.)

-A video was shown of Vic Joseph conducting a sit-down interview with North American Champion Myles Borne. He mentioned that last year had its ups and downs, with him not even being part of Stand & Deliver last year. Borne thanked NQCC for the experience and Ethan Page for showing him that sometimes you need to do things others won’t do. Joseph asked if he expected to face Johnny Gargano or Johnny Wrestling at Stand & Deliver. He said he hopes for Johnny Wrestling. At that point, Gargano interrupted and dismissed Joseph. He sat in Joseph’s chair and told Borne to be careful what he asked for. He said he used to be called Johnny Takeover, and if he finds him, he’s in trouble. Gargano showed a lot of fire and said he would stand and deliver rather than lie down and die. He said he has to, more than he knows. He came across as aggressive, yet desperate.

-Los Americanos made their way to the ring before the commercial break. [c]

-In the back, Wren Sinclair was pumping up Kendal Grey for her upcoming match with Lola Vice, then quickly excused herself.

(2) LOS AMERICANOS (Rayo & Bravo) vs. BIRTHRIGHT (Stacks & Uriah Connors) (w/Lexis King & Arianna Grace & Charlie Dempsey) – #1 Contenders Tag Team Tournament Final

Los Americanos dove over the top rope and onto their opponents before the bell rang. Bravo continued the assault on Connors in the ring, then he and Rayo crotched him into the ring post twice. Stacks danced with Grace on the outside until Bravo dropkicked him out of the way and took his place, unbeknownst to Grace, who reacted with horror when she discovered the switcheroo. Connors got an advantage over Rayo before they cut to the second split-screen commercial break of the night. [c]

More of the same drivel cluttered up the majority of the screen while the blue and red team regained control of the match on the left screen. Back to full screen, Rayo and Connors slugged it out while Lola Vice was shown warming up in the back. Bravo delivered an upside-down airplane spin on Stacks, but the shenanigans of Grace and King allowed Stacks to recover. Shiloh Hill came out with a chair, knocked King’s cane out of his hand, and chased him and Grace to the back while the match continued in the ring.

Connors got a very near fall on Bravo after Stacks took out Rayo on the outside. As Connors took down his kneepad in preparation for a strike, El Grande Americano ran out to a huge pop and distracted the referee while Los Americanos loaded their masks. Rayo took out Stacks with a headbutt on the outside, while Bravo landed a flying headbutt on Connors and scored the pin.

WINNERS: Los Americanos at 10:43 to become the #1 contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championship.

(Miller’s Take: That was a nice little crowd pleaser. The NXT fans, like in AAA, love Los Americanos, who started as a joke but have since become extremely popular. I really thought the push would go to the newly formed BirthRight, but it makes sense for Los Americanos to challenge the heel team of The Vanity Project, who were shown watching the match after it unfolded from the stands.)

-In the back, Dion Lennox was raging at Osiris Griffin and Saquon Shugars. They tried reassuring him that nobody was safe when DarkState was straight. Lennox said at Stand & Deliver, he’d make sure of it.

(3) JAIDA PARKER vs. KELANI JORDAN

Jordan mussed Parker’s hair and slapped her, but paid for her arrogance when Parker lit her up. Jordan caught her breath and went on the offense, trapping her in the ring apron and then slamming her into the ring steps. [c]

Back from the break, Parker struggled to regain her footing as Jordan held onto a rear chinlock. She stood up, backed her into the turnbuckle, then dropped her flat on her back. Jordan took a really nasty-looking tumble to the floor, then got flipped back into the ring by Miss Parker. Jaida hit her signature hip attack in the corner and high-stepped, but got nailed from behind by Jordan. An angry Parker turned around and gave it back. Jordan went for a split-legged moonsault, but got stopped by Parker, who climbed the ropes with her and threw her overhead with a German suplex from the top that saw Jordan nearly land on top of her head as she flipped over. Parker quickly followed through with a Hipnotic, then a two-handed goozle into a sit-out powerbomb for the victory.

WINNER: Jaida Parker at 9:38.

(Miller’s Take: After coming out on the losing end of a feud with Blake Monroe, Parker really needed this win to maintain any level of credibility. Jordan is just so good, both in the ring and in character, that she can eat a few losses and still emerge smelling like a rose. Here’s hoping that NXT continues on an upward path with the immensely popular Parker.)

-The Vanity Project encountered North American Champion Blake Monroe, then proceeded to show off their tag team title belts to her as they drooled uncontrollably. They hilariously offered to walk her to her locker room to protect her from Tatum Paxley. They fawned over her as she brushed them off, saying she was ready and could take care of herself.

-Ethan Page and Ricky Saints were shown walking the hallowed hallways of MSG before they cut to another split-screen commercial break, this time during ring entrances instead of during a match. [c]

-During the break, Tony D’Angelo, Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, and NXT Champion Joe Hendry all made their ring entrances. Back to full screen, Interim GM Robert Stone directed all four to sit down at two tables placed in a V shape mid-ring. D’Angelo and Saints sat on the left, while Page and Hendry sat on the right.

[HOUR TWO]

-The champ signed the contract, then said he couldn’t wait to see which one of them would stab the other in the back first. Saints took his turn running his mouth, and reaffirmed his friendship with Page, then signed the contract. Page said he took so much time being a great North American, but now he wants global recognition. As he and Saints bickered, Tony D yelled, “Enough!” He ran down Page and called Saints a revolutionary failure. He told Hendry he had nothing personal against him, but he’s an outsider, and NXT is in his blood.

-D’Angelo told Stone he knew how these things went and suggested he get out of the ring. With that, he slammed Ricky’s head on the table, sparking a four-way brawl. The mere fact that tables were set up in the ring meant that somebody had to go through them. D’Angelo put Saints through one table while Page put Hendry through the other. Tony D and Page then lit into each other. Security rushed the ring to separate them before Jasper Troy and Keanu Carver were shown walking toward the ring entrance. [c]

(4) KEANU CARVER vs. JASPER TROY

Special Referee Josh Briggs lounged in the corner while the competitors made their ring entrances. Carver attacked Troy before the bell, slamming him into the ring post and then the steps. As Carver grabbed Troy’s chain, Troy yanked on it and clotheslined Carver. Briggs called for the bell as they entered the ring. Booker T talked about the brief words they had when they met in which Booker accused Carver of not having any respect. Carver beat on Troy for a moment before sliding to the floor. A “fan” yelled at Carver, who grabbed the plant by the shirt. Briggs immediately stepped in and pulled him off, which allowed Troy the opportunity to grab Carver and chokeslam him through the announce desk. He delivered a black hole slam in the ring for a two-count, then shoved Briggs, who answered with a pump kick to the face. Carver pounced Troy and powerslammed him for the win as Booker T objected.

WINNER: Keanu Carver at 2:22.

(Miller’s Take: Well, that was short. Given both men’s lack of experience and the story being told, it was fine for what it was, though.)

-After the match, Carver insisted Briggs raise his hand in the middle of the ring. He obliged, then clotheslined Carver and smiled as he left the ring.

-In a red locker room with yellow lockers, a red and yellow-clad Hank & Tank chatted with the still-injured Sean Legacy, also-injured Speed Champion Elio LeFleur, and Eli Knight. LeFleur said he would be out for six months and needed to relinquish his title. Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair abruptly brushed past Knight to sit next to LeFleur and fawn over him before a cackling Shiloh Hill walked up and asked everyone why they were all so sad. Hank & Tank said they admired the psycho-enthusiasm, but they are all on the outside, looking in, to Stand & Deliver. Hill got serious, then said he wasn’t on the card either. He counted the people in the room, said he had an idea, then ran off laughing maniacally. [c]

-North American Women’s Champion Tatum Paxley made her ring entrance, sans title belt. She talked about how good it felt to grab Blake Monroe by the hair and nearly break down her hotel room door. She said she was excited by Monroe’s complexity, then invited her to the ring to return her championship. Monroe came out and pretended not to know why Paxley had an issue with her. She claimed she never lost the belt in the first place and said she just couldn’t give it back.

-Paxley told Monroe they both have something the other wants. She wants her belt back and Monroe wants a place at Stand & Deliver. She suggested they have some fun this Saturday, and Monroe accepted the match. She went on to describe how different they are. Paxley dropped the niceties and threatened her. She said she could be the goth to her glamour and the fire to her hell, but tonight she wants her championship back. She attacked Monroe, who managed to escape Paxley’s clutches with the stolen belt intact.

-In the back, Robert Stone told Sarah Schreiber that someone had made a suggestion to him earlier, and on the YouTube countdown show before Stand & Deliver, there would be a 10-person mixed tag team match featuring Shiloh Hill, Eli Knight, Hank & Tank, and Wren Sinclair vs. BirthRIght. A furious Keanu Carver interrupted to say he wanted Briggs. Stone said he’d have him at Stand & Deliver in a triple threat match also involving Jasper Troy. A ruckus caught Stone’s attention, and he rushed around the corner to encounter Kelani Jordan hammering Jaida Parker with a trash can. Officials ran in to separate them before they cut to a commercial break. [c]

-The Progressive NXT Focus was on the story of Zaruca, from formation to breakup.

-In the back, NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne said to Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley, “Well, I’m glad I’m out of that mess.” She said everyone lets her title get in the way of their friendships, but they don’t have that problem. Izzi Dame, who was listening in the background, told Jacy she’d been on top far too long to start acting dumb now. She said she knows exactly why everyone wants what she has, and it’s not Reid and Henley. She said she makes it crystal clear what she wants, then walked off as Fatal Influence sneered at her.

-Vic Joseph ran down the card for this weekend’s Stand & Deliver.

-The big main-event pulsating beat played as Kendal Grey, flanked by Wren Sinclair, and Lola Vice were shown making their way towards the entrance. AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion Lola Vice made her ring entrance before the commercial break. [c]

(5) LOLA VICE vs. KENDAL GREY (w/Wren Sinclair) – NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contender Match

Vice and Grey went at each other aggressively at the bell, with both executing strong, quick takedowns. After a stalemate, Vice took down Grey with a headlock, which she soon countered. Grey utilized her amateur background to gain the upper hand, but she bounced off Vice during a crisscross. Vice went into a quick armbar, but Grey slipped out. Grey elicited an astonished reaction from the crowd as she cartwheeled out of a Vice clothesline on the apron, then slid under the ropes beneath Vice’s legs. As the match went to the floor, yes, you guessed it; they cut to a split-screen commercial break. [c]

During the break, Vice flattened Grey with a back elbow, then followed that up with a stiff kick to the kidney area. Grey elbowed out of a rear chinlock, then sneaked in a couple of near falls until Vice grounded her again. Both women collided violently before they returned to full screen. Sinclair cheered on her friend, who mounted an offense against Vice after dropping the straps. She charged Vice in the corner, but missed. An attempted back fist by Vice was ducked by Grey. After a brief exchange, Vice landed the back fist, knocking Grey silly and sending her flopping lifelessly to the floor.

Fatal Influence walked out, which distracted Vice. Another referee ran out to separate them on the outside. Vice turned her attention back to Grey, who sidestepped her as she charged in and crashed into the ring steps. Grey threw her in the ring and climbed to the top to leap off, but Vice landed a back kick on the way down and covered her for a near fall. Vice missed a kick, then ate a back elbow from Grey that crossed her eyes. She barely kicked out of a pin attempt by Grey as Jayne heckled her. Vice missed a left and a right, then ate some right hands from Grey. Vice unleashed her lightning-fast side kicks until Grey caught a leg and applied an ankle lock. Vice slipped free and cinched in a choke hold that rendered Grey limp. She fought back and landed a Northern Lights suplex for the three count.

As Vic Joseph announced Grey as the winner, referee Adrian Butler ran into the ring to dispute the decision of referee Derek Sanders. A different camera angle revealed that Grey tapped at the moment she got the three-count, but did so at an angle unseen by Sanders, but seen by Butler, who was on the floor. As the referees debated each other and conferred with ring announcer Mike Rome, Senior Vice President Shawn Michaels walked to the ring to discuss the situation with the referees as each woman pleaded her case while Fatal Influence screamed from the ring apron.

WINNER: No decision at 13:31.

(Miller’s Take: Although this is a finish that has been done before, I honestly didn’t see this one coming. What appeared at first to be a botched ending was soon revealed to be a carefully choreographed non-finish. Grey and Vice worked well together and delivered stiff, believable offense in what felt like a big-time main event. I would have rather seen a clean finish, but I don’t think NXT sees a one-on-one match with Jayne vs. an inexperienced, but wildly talented and popular Grey as enough of a draw. Same with Jayne vs. Vice, who has already had multiple title shots and failed. Although it wasn’t announced, you can smell a triple threat match from a mile away.)

FINAL THOUGHTS: While not what I would consider an exceptional show by itself, it did a very good job of setting the table for Stand & Deliver this Saturday. Aside from the contract signing, there seemed to be more action and less talk, or at least more so than usual. Stand & Deliver is NXT’s WrestleMania, and they’ve got an absolutely stacked card. If I were a betting man, I’d lay down money on the NXT men’s and women’s titles to both change hands at the big event. If I were pressed even further, I’d lay another few down on those title changes being in favor of D’Angelo and Grey. Now that I’ve gone out on a limb in front of the PWTorch.com universe, let’s see how many of my words I’ll have to eat this Saturday night.
