SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
Mick Foley revealed that his reality TV show “Holy Foley” was the result of Vince McMahon stumbling upon the sizzle reel/pilot concept.
“It kind of came out of nowhere. Many opportunities don’t come to fruition for one reason or another. The pilot, or sizzle reel as they call it, was actually found by Vince and when he saw it, he loved it. We already have a core audience with the network and I have no doubt that if people give it a try, they will enjoy it,” Foley told NewsItem.com after filming scenes at an amusement park in Pennsylvania for his 51st birthday.
Foley also suggested that WWE is trying to expand their subscription base by reaching casual fans/non-wrestling fans with the series.
“WWE is really excited about the project. We have our core audience of wrestling fans, but this is the first of the network’s original programming directed at the general public,” Foley said.
Foley noted there will be wrestler cameos, appearances by celebrities like Dee Snider, and emphasis on his family.
“There’s not a lot of writing, mostly setting up scenarios where we react more than act. I am actually enjoying it more than some of the acting experiences I have had,” Foley said. “And even heavy metal legend Dee Snyder stops by to give a singing lesson on one episode.”
The series is scheduled to premiere this summer on WWE Network.
