SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Candice LeRae & Io Shirai vs. Marina Shafir & Jassamyn Duke – HIT: This was a decent opening tag match here. LeRae looked good and I’m glad she is actually being featured in matches. Shirai did Shayna Bayzler’s arm stomp, which drew Bayzler to the ring. The match ended in a DQ when it turned into a brawl that Baszler was included in on the outside of the ring. They announced later in the night that the two will be having a cage match on NXT TV in two weeks. Good opening tag match that set up the Bayzler vs. Shirai match.

Submission match: Kushida vs. Drew Gulak – HIT: I was really looking forward to this match and it did not disappoint. A Hit here as this is an example of how NXT differs from the main roster in that it provides intriguing and fresh pro wrestling matches. This match featured a lot of submission attempts, because this was a submission match. However, they did a submission match in the context of a normal match that was filled with a lot of counters and good technical wrestling. Kushida got the win in a good match with his hover-board submission. They showed good sportsmanship at the end of the match.

Damien Priest hype video – HIT: A video package aired that hyped the debut of Damien Priest next week. The fact they are introducing him before putting him in front of a crowd is a big Hit for me. It gives fans some kind of idea on who he is.

Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch – HIT: This was a good main event and once again proves how much NXT is leaning on the Undisputed Era. Even though The Undisputed Era received the better crowd reaction, Lorcan and Burch had a good portion of the crowd as well. This match had some really good action and received a standing ovation towards the end. The Forgotten Sons’ Jaxson Ryker interfered at the end of the match, causing Lorcan and Burch to get a flash pin on the Undisputed Era. Really good match that I would have liked to have gone a little longer.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This was an excellent show that still featured some Takeover fallout. There was a great submission match between Kushida and Drew Gulak, as well as the main event tag match featuring Undisputed Era’s Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong. Highlights of Adam Cole’s NXT Championship victory were shown, as well as a hype video for Damian Priest. The big stars were not on this show, but that did not stop it from being good. That speaks highly of NXT talent level and how good the overall product is. So in closing, it was another good weekly edition for the Black & Yellow Brand.
