July 14 – San Diego, Calif.: On June 29, WWE Superstar and host of PodcastOne’s hit podcast “Talk is Jericho,” Chris Jericho, announced that he would be launching an entire network of podcasts aptly called The Jericho Network and that of the most prolific and outspoken names in the history of lucha libre, Konnan, would be the first new voice of the network.
Last Thursday, the first episode of “Keepin It 100 with Konnan” dropped to widespread listener acclaim. Immediately breaking into the Top 15 Sports & Recreation podcasts on iTunes, the podcast, which also features co-host Glen “Disco Inferno” Gilberti (who was part of the Filthy Animals faction with Konnan in WCW) and producer Kevin Gill (host of The Kevin Gill Show) attracted more listeners in it’s first week than many well established shows from major networks including ESPN, Fox Sports, and long established wrestling personalities.
Not simply a podcast about wrestling, “Keepin It 100 with Konnan” listeners will get the legend’s take on squared circle related happenings but whatever else is topical and relevant to him that week from UFC, boxing and basketball to TV, film and pop culture – and always unfiltered and “100.”
On the first episode Konnan acknowledged the freedom he had been granted to remain as honest and controversial as ever as he explained, “It’s funny cuz when Chris Jericho came up to me and he told me he wanted me to have my own show I go ‘Bro have you heard my show its very risqué. It’s not like when I went on your show I was kind of PG. And he said. ‘Do you think I was going to make you this offer if I hadn’t heard your show already? Do what you do!'”
And that’s exactly what Konnan is doing. New episodes will be released every Thursday on iTunes and at PodcastOne.com/keepin-it-100-with-konnan. iOS/Apple users can subscribe and have new episodes load to their Podcasts app automatically and Android users can download the free “Podcast Addict” app and stream the show weekly.
Today’s new episode includes discussion of WWE Monday Night Raw, UFC 200 and the NBA and features the debut of two new regular segments. Back by popular demand, “The Juice” Juventud Guerrera calls in from London to talk about hanging out the night before with Paul Heyman and Masked Republic’s own Kevin Kleinrock joins Konnan and Disco on a new segment called “The Masked Republic Minute” to discuss a hot topic in the world of lucha libre. This week they discuss Pentagon, Jr. winning the AAA Latino Americano championship.
Additionally, Konnan will be joining Masked Republic for a very special and rare appearance at Comic-Con International in the Headlocked Comic booth (#1901) next Wednesday night, July 20 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Fans in attendance will be able to purchase autographed photos and memorabilia including limited edition “Comic-Con Week Only” merchandise that will be available only at the convention, at the Finest City Wrestling events in San Diego on July 22 and 23, and at LuchaShop.com from July 20-July 24.
