WWE is still looking to bring Cody Rhodes into the company for an appearance at WrestleMania 38.
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE still wants Rhodes for WrestleMania and that this week’s Monday Night Raw in Jacksonville is seen as a key date in making that happen. The report indicates that Cody had been penciled in for WrestleMania, but material involving him has been taken off the board as of now. That said, talks are ongoing between Cody and WWE, but nothing has been finalized.
Cody had a ten year run in WWE from 2006 until 2016. Rhodes adopted a handful of different gimmicks, including the Stardust act, and was pushed at various levels throughout his tenure. He’s a former Tag Team Champion and Intercontinental Champion, but left the company in 2016 after creative frustrations.
After leaving, Cody spent time in Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and a multitude of other indy promotions. He also spearheaded All In, the largest independent wrestling show in history. After the success of All In, Cody was brought into AEW by Tony Khan as an EVP. In AEW, Cody had memorable matches against Dustin Rhodes, MJF, and Chris Jericho. Cody is a former TNT Champion. He left AEW earlier this year after being unable to come to terms on a contract extension with Tony Khan.
WrestleMania 38 will stream live on Peacock on April 2 and April 3 from Dallas, Texas. Announced matches on the card include Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the Undisputed World Championship, Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women’s Championship, Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship, and more.

Beginning to think original reports that he is leaving AEW is a work — that his contract actually expired, but there’s been an agreement with Tony Khan and they’re waiting for the shock value. If WM comes and goes, in fact, I’m expecting it.
