SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Roman Reigns is one of the most divisive and talked about WWE performers in history. The company makes desperate play after desperate play to make him their number one star – thus far to no avail. How do they do it? What do they do?

I’m Tom Colohue and this is the Monday Night Reigns-o-Meter.

Now, naturally, it’s always important to make sure that Roman looks really strong. Lately people have been forgetting that and he’s been made to only look strong. In fact, has Roman really gone over lately? I know he’s won matches and looked amazing doing it but there’s a special kind of going over that’s reserved for Roman Reigns.

I miss his big beard. He was a shoe in for the star of the next Marine movie with that thing. That’s another thing he should naturally be taking from The Miz. More on that story later.

At Survivor Series a lot of people were made to look strong. Tamina had her moment. Asuka had her match. Baron Corbin had his monster moment. Both Styles and Lesnar looked amazing and, most importantly, Triple H was the most featured wrestler and winner of the main event. That’s right, the one who’s been there longest went over, even if that is over twenty years.

The Shield opened the show against The New Day and this match did a lot of good for The New Day in establishing them as being strong, tough and capable. Big E got to go toe to toe with Roman and looked like an equal, as The Miz did the next night. More on that story later.

How did the match end? How do you think? This is the Roman Reignsometer after all.

Beautiful.

And so we fast forward to last night’s Monday Night Raw, where Roman Reigns lined up against a foe eminently familiar to The Shield: The Miz.

Now, as a Roman Reignsometer my love for Roman Reigns is greater than the love I have for food, for sleep and for oxygen but as a person I think it’s long established that I love me some Miz. Miz is my man. Miz is The Man. The Miz is…

Roman Reignsometer. Roman Reignsometer. Roman Reignsometer. Breathe. Be still my aching heart.

Anyway, Roman Reigns!

I’m still confused as to why all three members of The Shield have suddenly abandoned their pursuit of top gold. Actually, I’m not at all confused by Ambrose doing that but both Rollins and Reigns have had sudden changes of heart that I don’t quite get.

And so Roman Reigns wants an IC Title shot. Does he get it? Yes. He’s Roman Reigns. I’m sure all he had to do was flex the muscles on his masterfully tattooed arms and Kurt Angle instantly rolled over and gave him whatever he wanted.

In order to seal the deal, The Shield beat up a man in a neck brace who hasn’t actually attacked them first. Be a star, kids. Be a star. The Miz manages to escape with his title. More on that story later.

Yeah, we’ve reached that point in the story now. Miz lost his title. I mean, he looked strong doing it but let’s not sugar coat it. Roman went over. Roman looked strong.

So what next for Roman Reigns? Well, he is due a rematch with The Miz. All title losses come embedded with rematches now for some reason. Why am I excited for that? Well, that’s simple. It’s Roman Reigns.

Did Roman Reigns beat the odds?
