SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

WWE Smackdown/ECW House Show Report
May 6, 2007
Binghamton, N.Y., Broome County Arena
Report by Alex Gerou, PWTorch VIP Member

It was announced right away that the Undertaker wouldn’t be competing in the main event (as advertised) due to an injury and instead the main event would be a six-man tag match. That got the loudest boos of the night. It was a good crowd, with the arena was about 80 percent full.

(1) RVD defeated Marcus Cor Von in an extreme rules match. Okay match. They brawled on the outside for a while and RVD hit a lot of his signature moves using a chair. Finish came when RVD pinned Cor Von after the Five Star Frog Splash.

(2) Mark Henry defeated Funaki & Jimmy Wang Yang in a Handicap match. Short squash. Henry pinned Yang after the World’s Strongest Slam.

(3) Michelle McCool defeated Jillian w/ Kristal as special guest referee. Jillian sang in the beginning and everyone booed. Very poor match. Michelle won with a backbreaker.

(4) Deuce & Domino (w/Cherry) defeated Paul London & Brian Kendrick and William Regal & Dave Taylor in a triple threat tag match for the WWE Tag Team Champonship. Okay match. Deuce & Domino hardly worked any of the match. Kendrick and London showed great intensity. Finish came when Cherry pushed London off the top turnbuckle (he did a crazy flip and almost landed on his head) and Deuce made the cover for the win. He may have used the ropes for leverage, I couldn’t really see.

Intermission

(5) Boogeyman defeated The Miz. Major heat for the Miz. Miz got in some offense before the Boogeyman finished him off with the choke bomb. No worms.

(6) C.M. Punk defeated Elijah Burke. Best match of the night. Some good nearfalls. Punk avoided The Elijah Express in the corner and hit the GTS for the win.

(7) Batista & Chris Benoit & Kane defeated Mr. Kennedy & MVP & Finlay in a six-man tag team match. Not a whole lot of heat for any of the heels, and even some cheers for Mr. Kennedy and MVP. Batista’s right thigh was taped up and he didn’t work much of the match. There was a funny moment when Hornswaggle faced off with Kane and Kane dropped to his knees before setting up Hornswaggle for the chokeslam. MVP made the save but took a chokeslam instead. Finish came when Finlay got hit with a Benoit headbutt followed by a chokeslam from Kane for the pin.

The show ran about 2 hours 30 minutes. Pretty good show. I would like to have seen more of the ECW originals, but it was still a fun time.

Biggest Pops:

1. Batista
2. Kane/Benoit
3. RVD
4. C.M. Punk

Most Heat:

1. Undertaker injury announcement
2. Deuce and Domino
3. The Miz
4. Jillian’s singing
