Last night’s episode of WWE Smackdown drew a 1.62 rating, the lowest since July 4 and the lowest non-holiday number since June 13. It was down from the 1.73 rating last week and below the ten week rolling average headed into the week of 1.76. It’s also below the year-ago number of 1.71.
The monthly average has been on the climb, going from a 1.60 in May, to a 1.65 in June, 1.67 in July, 1.75 in August, and 1.78 in September. So far in October, the average is back down to June’s average of 1.76.
Keller’s Analysis: Smackdown went up against the opening night of the NBA playoffs and MLB playoffs, which likely explains this dropoff. The show was built around Jinder Mahal’s “big Survivor Series announcement,” the latest developments with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens forming an alliance, and a main event announced during the show of Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Zayn & Owens, and that wasn’t enough to stave off losing viewers to the big sporting events.
