[HOUR ONE]

-The crowd was already chanting “A-E-Dub” as Excalibur welcomed everyone to the show. Dynamite’s entrance music was playing in the background, but it was interrupted by Gabe Kidd entering with a microphone. He said time is ticking and asked where Darby is.

Gabe Kidd entered the ring and Darby came out of nowhere to attack him from behind. Kidd shrugged Darby off and smashed him in the corner. Kidd removed the turnbuckle, but Darby turned it around and slammed Kidd’s face into the exposed turnbuckle. Darby attacked Kidd in the ropes until Kidd swept out his legs, sending him crashing to the floor. Kidd continued to throw Darby into the barricade and then dropped him with a left-handed lariat.

Kidd tossed Darby into the ring and turned around to yell at the crowd. As Kidd turned back around, Darby came flying from the top rope and hit Kidd with a flying Coffin Drop to the outside. Darby went for a splash in the corner, but Kidd caught him in a rear naked choke in the corner.

Darby escaped by raking Kidd’s eyes, but Yuta came through the crowd. Darby knocked Yuta off of the apron and hit Kidd with a springboard coffin drop. Darby retrieved his skateboard (lined with thumbtacks) from under the ring. Darby jumped from the top rope onto Yuta’s back with the skateboard, leaving Yuta’s back impaled with a number of tacks.

Darby lined Kidd up in the corner with skateboard, but Claudio, Marina, and Moxley all arrived at ringside. They surrounded the ring, and then the lights went out and the arena went black. The Hook “H” appeared in the sky, bringing out Hook to his new, off-putting entrance music.

Hook was in no hurry to get to the ring, and his music was interrupted by the Opps entrance before Joe and Hobbs ran past Hook in the aisle. Everyone began to brawl all around the ring and up the aisle. Willow came from nowhere and attacked Marina. The crowd chanted for Joe as he took Claudio down and Hobbs fought with Moxley.

Gabe Kidd and Darby brawled through the backstage area and Kidd choke Darby on a shipping container. Kidd grabbed a toolbox and pulled out a hammer. Darby dodged the hammer swing and ran to a waiting pickup truck. Darby grabbed some kind of powder from the back of the truck and threw it into Kidd’s eyes.

Kidd was blinded, Darby grabbed his rag soaked in mystery fluid and held it over Kidd’s mouth until he passed out. Darby grabbed a body bag that was tied to the back of the pickup truck, tossed Kidd into it and zipped it up. Darby started the truck and took off, dragging Kidd behind him in the body bag.

(White’s Take: That was a chaotic opening that immediately set the tone for the rest of the night. Darby continues to get his revenge while working towards a one-on-one match Moxley and The Death Riders continue to presented as threats to everyone.)

-Back to ringside, everything seemed to have calmed down and Excalibur ran down some of the evening’s matches.

-They threw to a video package of Mercedes Mone and Alex Windsor building to their upcoming match.

(1) MERCEDES MONE vs. ALEX WINDSOR – TBS Championship match

Mercedes entered first, as is the champion’s prerogative. Eight of Mercedes’ nine belts were waiting for her in the ring as she entered wearing the TBS Title. “WIndsahhhhhhhhh” came over the speaker to bring out Alex Windsor.

The bell rang to start the match 13 minutes into the hour. Mone started with a series of strikes before choking Windsor in the corner with her foot. Windsor countered a hurricanrana attempt with a Sharpshooter attempt, but Mone escaped, crawling to the ropes.

Windsor executed a backdrop on Mone and followed it up with a chop in the corner. Windsor took Mone down with back-to-back arm drags and a low dropkick to the face. Windsor made the cover, but Mone kicked out at two.

Mone countered a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker into an armbar bringing Windsor down before transitioning into the Statement Maker. Windsor quickly made it to the ropes to break the hold. Windsor escaped to ringside and Mone followed. Mone tried to throw Windsor into the stairs, but she blocked it and then hit Mone with a canon ball from the apron onto Mone on the floor.

Back in the ring, Windsor tried for the Sharpshooter again, but Mone countered out of it and threw Windsor out of the ring. Mone went for a sliding dropkick to the outside, but Windsor jumped over her on the apron, grabbed her leg and slammed her knee into the apron. Windsor put Mone into a sharpshooter in the ropes.

Mone didn’t wait for the five count, reaching back and grabbing Windsor by the hair to break the hold. Mone slid between Windsor’s legs to the outside and powerbombed her off of the apron to the floor. Mone caught her breath as they went to break. [c]

Back from break, Windsor took Mone down with a flying clothesline followed by. Russian legsweep. Windsor went for the pin, but Mone kicked out at two. Windsor went back to the Sharpshooter, but Mone kicked her way out of it. Mone hit the ropes, but ran right into a Blue Thunder Bomb. Windsor held on for the pin, but Mone kicked out at two.

Windsor locked Mone into the Sharpshooter. Mone struggled and Windsor sat back, but Mone grabbed Windsor’s hair and countered into the Statement Maker. Windsor writhed in pain but managed to get to her feet with Mone on her back. Mone took Windsor down with a crucifix bomb.

Mone followed up with a backstabber, but Windsor came back with a pop-up powerbomb that left both women down. The announcer told everyone 10 minutes remained in the match as Windsor wrapped Mone’s legs up as they were both down. Windsor got to her feet and tried to lock in the Sharpshooter again, but Mone rolled to the ring ropes, and too the floor.

Windsor held the hold on the floor until the ref reached the count of seven. Mone made it back in before the ten count. Windsor went to the top rope a leapt off with a flying clothesline, but Mone caught her, swung her down and locked in the Statement maker again

Windsor escaped, but Mone landed another backstabber. Windsor got to her feet and hit Mone with a clothesline before dropping to the mat again. Both women struggled to their feet. They traded forearms in the center of the ring until Windsor dropped Mone with a slap.

Mone came back with a knee and went for the Mone Maker, but Windsor countered with a forearm shot into a modified Michinoku driver. Windsor held on for the pin, but Mone just managed to kick out at two.

The crowd chanted :This is awesome” as Windsor tried to drag Mone to the top rope. Mone countered it and went for a superplex, but Windsor connected with a headbutt. However, Mone came back with a gorinoclasm, slamming Windsor down from the top rope. Mone transitioned directly into the Statement maker.

Windsor struggled in the submission, desperately crawling towards the ropes. Windsor came within inches, but Mone rolled her back to the center of the ring. Windsor continued to fight and nearly made it to the ropes again.

Mone went to roll her to the center of the ring again, but Windsor countered it with a pin attempt. Mone kicked out at two but had to break her hold. Windsor set Mone up for the Sharpshooter yet again, Mone countered it into a rollup and got the three count.

WINNER: Mercedes Mone in 15:00

-After the match, Mone offered a handshake, but Mone countered it with a middle finger. Windsor tried to take her down with a sharpshooter, but Mone countered it into Statement Maker. Mone held the hold until familiar music played. Riho charged in through the crowd, hopped onto the top rope and broke up the hold with a splash. Riho dropkicked Mone out of the ring and then admired the TBS title as Mone escaped.

(White’s Take: Very good match, Mercedes continues her streak of solid title defenses while Windsor proved that, while she may be new to AEW, she knows what she’s doing in the ring. The story seemed to be an intriguing battle of submission holds, with Windsor really trying to lock in the Sharpshooter that tapped Mone last week, which is why the rollup finish was a bit of a let down. I also appreciate that they announced the time limit approaching  in this match, as they typically never do that except when there is a draw. The return of Riho sets up what should be a good match against Mercedes. She’s been gone with no word for a long time, but Riho always gets the crowd on her side.)

-Backstage, Renee was with Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs. She asked where Hook stands with them. Joe said she needs to ask Hook. Hook appeared to tell Hobbs and Joe that he doesn’t need their help. He was upset that they replaced him so quickly. Joe said that an opportunity came calling and they had to take it. Joe clarified that he made the call, and that at some point Hook will need their help, and The Opps will have his back whether he wants it or not. [c]

-They returned from commercial backstage with Ricochet and GOA. Ricochet said his issues with The Hurt Syndicate go back before they even joined AEW. Ricochet, it’s business for them, but him and GOA, it’s personal. Toa Liona took credit for ending The Hurt Syndicate’s title reign. Kaun said that Ricochet is better than all of The Hurt Syndicate. Ricochet made a challenge for a six man tag match in Toronto. He actually said it’s not a challenge, but a demand.

-They showed a banner indicating that Taz was inducted into the 2300 Arena hall of fame.

-Mark Briscoe made his entrance as the announcers reminded everyone that Briscoe was targeting Kyle Fletcher’s TNT title. Briscoe got on the microphone to put over the arena as hallowed ground. Briscoe lamented having to talk to Don Callis, inducing an anti Don Callis chant. Briscoe said Callis looks like Elton John dressed up as a prosthetic penis for Halloween.

Don’s single note of music played to bring out Callis, followed by Rocky Romero and Lance Archer. Callis stopped in the aisle and said he had something important to say. Callis said that Briscoe is very impatient, but he’s very busy. Callis eventually told Briscoe that he’ll be facing Takeshita on Collision. This cued Takeshita’s music, bringing him out to join the Callis Family. Takeshita got into the ring and stared Briscoe down. Briscoe said that’s great, but he’s ready to fight now and told Callis to send someone now. Rocky took off his jacket before Archer marched towards the ring.

(2) MARK BRISCOE vs. LANCE ARCHER (w/Don Callis & Rocky Romero & Konosuke Takeshita)

They started fighting immediately 45 minutes into the hour and the bell rang as a ref made it to the ring. They exchanged forearms until Archer grabbed Briscoe by the throat. Briscoe escaped and landed a kick to the head that knocked Archer to the floor.

Briscoe hit the ropes and connected with a dropkick through the ropes. Briscoe rolled back into the ring and went for a suicide dive, but Archer caught Briscoe in midair and chokeslammed Briscoe onto the apron. Archer slid into the ring and made the cover, but Briscoe kicked out at two.

Briscoe rolled out of the ring as Archer flipped the ringside stairs onto their side. Archer grabbed Briscoe by the neck and lifted him into the air before chokeslamming him down onto the steel ring stairs. Archer mugged for the camera as they went to break. [c]

Back from break, Archer was in control of Briscoe. Archer lifted Briscoe up, but Briscoe escape. Briscoe dodged Archer in the corner and landed some chops followed by forearms. Briscoe hit a shoulder tackle, but Archer shrugged it off. He hit a second one that didn’t affect him before landing a running forearm that stunned Archer.

Briscoe clotheslined Archer over the top rope. Briscoe hit the ropes and took Archer out with a flipping dive through the ropes. Briscoe set Archer up for a Jay Driller, but Archer powered out of it with a back body drop.

Briscoe ran into a big boot in the corner from Archer. Archer set Briscoe up for a powerbomb and slammed him down into the turnbuckle. Archer followed it up with a high chokeslam. Archer went for the pin, but Briscoe kicked out at two.

Archer set Briscoe up onto the corner and went for The Blackout, but Briscoe escaped with shots to the head followed by a dropkick from the middle rope, leaving both men down. Briscoe got to his feet and hit Archer on his knees. Archer went for a. back body drop, but Briscoe flipped all the way around and landed on his feet.

Briscoe followed up with some redneck kung fu chops. Archer set Briscoe back up onto the ropes, but Briscoe escaped by biting his forehead. Briscoe connected with an ugly sunset flip powerbomb from the top rope. Briscoe made the cover, but Archer kicked out at two. Briscoe climbed to the top rope and landed the Froggy ‘Bow. Briscoe hooked the leg and got the victory.

WINNER: Mark Briscoe in 8:00

(White’s Take: Fine match, although beating Lance Archer is only slightly more impressive than beating Rocky Romero. Still, Briscoe almost always exceed expectations in the ring, making his match with Takeshita on Collision something to look forward to.)

-Toni Storm was backstage with a camera crew she had commandeered (per Excalibur). Toni addressed the Philadelphia freaks. She said if the building could speak it would never shut up. Toni said she’ll be “the most batshit bitch every to piss in the sink.” Toni said the AEW title is her golden cross to bear. She begged anyone to step up to play the role in the “greatest show on Earth.” Toni said not to worry, “God doesn’t judge. That’s my job.” [c]

-They returned from commercial backstage with Renee interviewing Harley Cameron and Kris Statlander. Harley said she got busted open again last week, but the mask doesn’t protect. Harley noted that her tag team with Statlander is undefeated and called out Brodido. Yuta appeared to address Statlander and let her know that the Death Riders have their back. Marina appeared to stare down Statlander before leaving with Yuta.

[HOUR TWO]

(3) BRODIDO (Brody King & Bandido) vs. THE DEATH RIDERS (Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli w/Marina Shafir) – AEW Tag Team Championship match

The Death Riders entered first through the crowd. The announcers noted that Yuta can’t be 100% given Darby’s attack from earlier. Brody King and Bandido entered as a team and the crowd chanted “Brodido!” The bell rang to start the match 2 minutes into the second hour, with Bandido and Yuta starting for their teams.

The crowd explicitly told Yuta how they feel as he wrestled Bandido to the mat. Bandido dodged Yuta in the corner, did a few flips and pointed finger guns at his head before taking him down with a headscissor followed by a dropkick. Claudio tagged in as did Brody.

Claudio and Brody ran into each other with clotheslines before trading strikes. Brody won out with a series of chops before Claudio hit a big boot. Claudio went for a springboard European uppercut, but Brody caught Claudio on his shoulders. Claudio escaped but walked into a forearm from Brody.

Bandido tagged in and Brody slammed him down onto Caludio and followed up with a senton. Bandido did the Macarena for some reason, prompting Brody to return to the apron. Claudio blocked a suplex attempt from Bandido. They went back and forth until Bandido deadlifted Claudio up for the vertical suplex.

Bandido climbed to the top rope and came off with a flying crossbody, but Claudio caught him in midair and brought him down into a backbreaker. Claudio knocked Bandido out of the ring. Yuta attacked Bandido at ringside as they went to commercial. [c]

They returned from commercial with Bandido trying to make the tag, but Wheeler hit a modified Olympic Slam. Claudio tagged in and kicked Brody off of the apron. Bandido caught Claudio with a hotshot across the top rope and went for a springboard hurricanrana, but Claudio blocked it with his strength. Claudio lifted Bandido up for a powerbomb, but he flipped over turning it into a Code Red.

Brody tagged in and chopped away at Claudio and Yuta. Brody crushed Claudio and Yuta with a splash in the corner followed by the double canon ball on both men. Brody covered Claudio, but he kicked out at two. Bandido tagged in and they connected with a combination enziguri and clothesline on Claudio in the corner.

Bandido headscsissored Brody into the corner onto Claudio in a unique tag team maneuver. Bandido made the cover, but Claudio kicked out at two. Bandido climbed to the top rope and went for a frog splash, but Claudio rolled out of the way. Claudio made the tag to Yuta.

Yuta charged in, but Brody tagged in and they hit a double chop to Yuta’s back. Brody set Yuta onto the top rope and brought him crashing down with a superplex. Bandido set up for the running leg-assisted 450 splash, but Marina grabbed his legs from the outside.

Claudio took advantage of the distraction and dropped them with uppercuts. Brody rolled to ringside, where Moley appeared out of nowhere to slam Brody into the ring post. In the ring, Claudio threw Yuta from the top rope into a splash on Bandido. Yuta made the cover, but Bandido kicked out at two.

Claudio got Bandido up into the giant swing for a few rotations before Yuta hit him with a dropkick. Yuta made the cover, but Brody broke up the pin at the very last second. Moxley stalked Brody at ringside, but he was suddenly blindside by Darby Allin. Darby threw Moxley into the barricade and landed a shotgun dropkick.

Brody dropped Claudio at ringside with a big forearm and then hit Yuta with a forearm as well. Yuta collapsed against the ropes in perfect position for Bandido to deliver the 21-Plex. Bandido made the cover and got the three count.

WINNERS: Brodido in 13:00

(White’s Take: Another solid, solid match. Brodido has really broken out in the tag division and I credit AEW with pushing them to this level when it seemed likely to be a temporary team.)

Darby escaped through the crowd, pursued by Moxley as Brody and Bandido celebrated in the ring.

-Renee was backstage with Okada. She asked about the tension with Takeshita. Okada said that everyone knows he’s the top dog in the Callis Family. “Bitch.” [c]

-Back from commercial, Renee was with The Hurt Syndicate for their response to Ricochet’s challenge. MVP said Ricochet turned into a whiny hater. He warned GOA not to let Ricochet turn their career into a punchline. MVP said The Hurt Syndicate don’t demand respect; they command respect. He went on to accept their challenge, saying they’re going to hit him in his “bitch mouth.”

-Adam Copeland’s music played to bring him out to the ring. Copeland was blasted from behind by Dax. Cash joined in beating Copeland down in the corner. Christian charged the ring and all four men continued to brawl, spilling to ringside. Security guards made it to the ring to try to break it up. The brawl continued, with the security guards taking a few bumps. Several unknown talents (ROH, per Excalibur) rushed the ring to break it up as the crowd chanted “let them fight.” They finally got everyone separated before Dax and Cash hit some random talent with a spike piledriver, causing the brawl to escalate again, without Christian and Copeland.

(White’s Take: We opened the show with a brawl, although this one was more protracted and annoying. It’s weird that they hit fast forward on the Christian and Copeland storyline when they still have nearly three weeks until that match at All In.)

-They threw to a video package of Daniel Garcia talking to Jon Moxley. Garcia said he’s been there since the beginning and has seen The Death Riders take out his heroes. He went on to claim that he’s going to beat Moxley on Saturday before the went to commercial. [c]

-Stokely was backstage with FTR saying he can’t wait until All Out in Toronto. Cash yelled at one of the ROH guys from earlier, challenging him to a match on Saturday before Stokely told him to “get his bitch ass outta here.”

The Young Bucks got their Succession-inspired theme music back, although their chyron read “These guys again?” They showed an inset of footage of them taking pictures with fans at a twenty dollar meet and greet at All In. Kyle Fletcher entered to his music with Josh Alexander and Don Callis behind him.

Callis joined the commentary team as JetSpeed entered together in matching gear. Kenny Omega entered to a strong crowd creation, followed by “Hangman” Adam Page to a similarly strong reaction. Alexander and Page started the match as the bell rang 39 minutes into the second hour.

Alexander wrenched Page’s arm, but he escaped and grabbed a side headlock. Alexander bounced him off the ropes, but Page dropped him with a shoulder tackle. Page attempted a leapfrog, but Alexander caught him.

Alexander went for a German suplex, but Page flipped out, landed on his feet and dropped Alexander with a big boot. Page went to tag in Omega, but Fletcher ran into the ring to stop him. All eight man entered the ring and a brawl ensued.

Bailey and Alexander tagged in simultaneously, and Bailey landed his rapid-fire kicks to the midsection before hitting a running low kick followed by the moonsault double knees Bailey went for a low roundhouse, but Alexander ducked it and delivered a big German suplex on bailey. Alexander held on and hit a second German suplex.

Bailey went for the moonsault into double knees, but Alexander rolled out of the way and Bailey landed hard on his knees on the apron. Nick ran the barricade and hit Knight with a kick. Matt pulled Bailey down and set him up in tombstone position. Nick ran into the ring and assisted Fletcher with a tombstone int eh ring, before jumping off the apron and assisting with the tombstone on the outside to Bailey.

All four men punched away at each other.  Page hit Matt with a boot and went for the Buckshot lariat, but Matt countered it and held Page in place as Nick went for a Buckshot of his own. But Page dodged it and Nick hit Matt with the lariat.

Omega took Nick down with a V-Trigger as Page went for the Buckshot. Nick pulled Matt out of the way and they hit a double superkick on Omega and Page, but they came back with a pair of lariats leaving all four men down.

Fletcher and Page traded strikes until Fletcher landed a half and half suplex. Page hit a back elbow and then moonsaulted into tombstone position, but Fletcher rolled through into a tombstone of his own. Fletcher drilled Page with tombstone piledriver and made the over,. But Page kicked out at two.

Fletcher hit a running kick on Page int eh corner and went for the brainbuster, but Hangman escaped and tagged in Knight. Knight came in with a springboard into a sunset flip for a two count. Alexander hit Knight with an assisted tombstone piledriver in the center of the ring. Fletcher followed up with his brainbuster. Fletcher made the cover and got the win.

WINNERS: The Young Bucks and Don Callis Family in 22:00

(White’s Take: I know they call all of their four-on-four matches “All Star Eight Man” tag matches, but this one is the closest they’ve come to fitting that billing. It’s great to see Hangman, Omega, and the Young Bucks in a main event with young guys like JetSpeed and Fletcher. This was the kind of chaotic, PWG-styled athletic showcases one would hope for. Everyone had a chance to shine and we even got a nod to the classic match of Hangman & Omega vs. The Young Bucks. For the kind of person who isn’t turned off by this kind of match, it was fantastic.)

-After the match, The Callis Family attacked Page and Omega as the Bucks went after JetSpeed. Fletcher drilled Hangman with a brainbuster onto a chair. Rocky and Archer brought out a table. Omega tried to fight everyone off, but Fletcher hit him in the abdomen with a chair. Fletcher set Omega up on the apron and executed a brainbuster off of the apron through the table. Medical staff arrived to check on Kenny aS Fletcher exclaimed that he’s dead. A stretcher came out for Omega eventually as they went off the air.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This was an engaging episode of Dynamite. A night of quality wrestling action from the great TBS Title match, to the very good tag title match, to the exciting main event. Chaotic brawls and show-closing beatdowns were a hallmark of some early episodes of Dynamite, and a welcome change of pace from the never-ending deluge of matches we sometimes get (on Collision, for instance). The ending probably didn’t warrant its overrun, but at least it wasn’t as drawn-out as the execution of Roman Reigns over the weekend.
