LIVE ON YOUTUBE RIGHT AFTER WWE RAW TONIGHT: LIVE ON YOUTUBE
[HOUR ONE]
-They opened with an aerial view of Paris, France including the Eiffel Tower followed by cheering fans outside the arena earlier. Then they cut to clips of wrestlers arriving including Penta, Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee, Sol Ruca, Liv Morgan, and Je’Von Evans as Cole hyped the four-way tournament matches.
-A video recap aired Oba Femi and Dominik Mysterio advancing the King of the Ring tournament last week. then Iyo Sky and Raquel advancing in the Queen of the Ring tournament last week.
-Oba Femi made his ring entrance. The fans sang his name. Oba said he and Paul Heyman don’t agree on much, but they share in common that they don’t believe in predictions, but they do believe in spoilers. He said he’s going to plow through everyone in the tournament and he’ll beat whomever ends up in the finals at Night of Champions. He said there is one trophy he has yet to collect, and that is the head of Brock Lesnar. He said they are 1-1 and he is nowhere to be seen. He said he returned in the most underhanded way possible. “He cheats, he hits me from behind, he attacks when I’m not looking,” he said. He said all he’s seen the last three weeks isn’t a released beast, but a big bad bitch. He said he Lesnar can’t stay away forever, “so when I see you, I will settle the score.”
Dominik Mysterio’s music played and he made his entrance. Dom walked out and told Oba, “You don’t rule anybody.” He said while Oba is worried about Brock, he should be worried about him. “Let me ask you a question,” Dom said. “How long have you been here, rookie?” Dom stepped onto the ring apron and told Oba to “bend the knee and respect the stash.” JD McDonagh came up behind Oba and smashed him with a chair across the back. Oba absorbed it with barely a flinch and then turned and punched the chair into JD’s face. Dom leaped at Oba, but Oba caught him and threw him to the mat. JD yanked Dom to safety before Oba’s follow-up. Oba said Dom messed up. “We all know that Rey Mysterio is your father,” he said. “Next week, I will introduce you to your daddy.”
(Keller’s Analysis: Whatever the “It Factor” is, Oba continues to show he has it in a way that few wrestlers in history have had. He has an authority and command of himself that is attractive to fans. I loved that he called out Lesnar for cheating and underhanded tactics, as that’s such a key – especially when Oba is the messenger – of restoring an essential key in pro wrestling storytelling, which is that heels deserve to be booed in part because they disgrace the method of finding out who the best wrestler is by cheating and they are sore losers who attack people from behind. Dom had crazy fun heel heat here and viewers are going to tune in to see Oba deliver on his promise to destroy him.)
-They went to Cole and Corey Graves at ringside. They showed clips of last week’s Seth Rollins win over Bron Breakker and Seth spearing Heyman through a barricade.
-Jackie Redmond interviewed Seth Rollins backstage as fans sang his theme. He said the last time he was in Paris, he was the leader of The Vision, but now The Vision is part of the past. He said he’s going to win the King of the Ring and that means he has a date with Roman Reigns. He said Roman can’t seem to win his title on his own and can’t seem to beat him when it matters most. He said he’s holding onto a title that doesn’t belong to him. He said it belongs to him.
-Alexa Bliss made her ring entrance. [c]
-Cole got in some plugs.
(1) ALEXA BLISS vs. BECKY LYNCH vs. LIV MORGAN vs. CHELSEA GREEN – Queen of the Ring First Round Fatal Four-Way match
Green’s entrance aired after the break. Cole said Heyman wasn’t medically cleared to be in Paris for Raw after last week’s spear by Seth. Becky’s entrance took place next. Then Liv Morgan came out to her entrance theme, lip syncing it on her way out. The bell rang 26 minutes into the hour. Liv flip dove onto Becky at ringside. Green leaped onto both with a crossbody press. As she played to the crowd, Cole asked how obnoxious she’d be if she won Queen of the Ring. Becky shoved Bliss into the ringpost as they cut to a break at 2:00. [c]
Liv powerbombed Green off the top rope. Bliss landed a Twisted Bliss on Morgan to break up the count, Becky then interrupted her cover; Liv actually lifted her shoulder. Becky avoided a tornado DDT, but Bliss leveraged her into a two count. She landed a blockbuster next. Liv charged at Bliss with an Oblivion, but Bliss blocked it and landed Oblivion. Becky landed a Manhandle Slam. Green gave Becky an Unprettier. Morgan somersaulted Green into a jackknife pin for a three count.
WINNER: Morgan in 9:00 to advance.
-Cole and Graves plugged TripleMania. Then they threw to a video package previewing the Penta vs. Rey match tonight for the IC Title.
-They cut backstage to Penta. Chad Gable walked up to him and told him that he has done a lot recently he is ashamed of. He said he went crazy and spiraled and insulted an entire culture, and he has realized it was because he lost to him. He said he took his loss like a coward, and he said he wanted to look him in the eyes and say he is sorry. Penta said he loves everything about Lucha Libre and its culture. Penta said if he wants to do right by Lucha Libre, he knows who he has to talk to. Gable nodded and said, “I know.” [c]
-Cole plugged a fall SNME will be Sunday, not Saturday, in Atlanta on Sept. 6. Then they showed another aerial view of Paris.
-Backstage, they were showing Seth folding his clothes (compelling TV!) when (thankfully) Montez Ford walked in and hugged him. He wished him luck tonight “because you are this generation’s King of the Ring.” The Usos and Jacob Fatu walked in. Jey told Seth to be real careful how he speaks about the family. He said he’s going to win KOTR and he’ll go on to take the title for Cody. Seth said at least Jey is in the tournament, whereas Big Jim is on the sidelines right where Roman wants him. He said he’s never talking about the family, he’s talking about Reigns. He said he understands why they do business the way they do, but he’s disappointed because he thought they were better than this. He said perhaps the best it ever will be for them is being bag-boys for Roman. Jey told Jacob to “get this fool.”
Fatu walked up to Seth. A loud “Fatu!” chant broke out. He eyed, Seth, then turned and left. The Usos weren’t happy. Seth snickered. [c]
-A video package previewed Sol vs. Lyra.
-Backstage, Bayley gave Lyra a pep talk.
-Sol made her ring entrance. [c]
-Cole plugged tickets for SNME on July 18 in New York City, NY at MSG.
(2) SOL RUCA vs. LYRA VALKYRIA – Intercontinental Title match
Lyra’s ring entrance aired. The bell rang 56 minutes into the hour. Cole and Graves talked about Sol being part of the NIL group. Graves said acrobatics won’t alone prepare her for the hard falls and grind of a match, and that’s where Lyra has an advantage because of her years of seasoning on the indy scene. Lyra lifted Ruca and dumped her over the top rope at 3:00. They cut to a break. [c]
[HOUR TWO]
Back from the break, they collided mid-ring and both were down and slow to get up. Ruca landed a running knee to the chest for a two count. Lyra came back with a leaping spin wheel kick for a two count at 8:00. When Lyra went for a tornado DDT, Ruca did a hand-stand and ended up on her feet. Ruca set up a Sol Snatcher, but Lyra caught her mid-air. Ruca went for a sunset flip escape, but Lyra sat down on her shoulders for a two count. Ruca then landed a sudden Sol Snatcher. They cut to an angle from ringside where the ringpost blocked the impact, for some reason. It was good for a three count.
WINNER: Ruca in 10:00 to retain the IC Title.
-A clip aired of Fatu acknowledging Reigns last week on Raw.
-Jey confronted Fatu and yelled at him. Jimmy said they give him the play and he should run it. Fatu clarified that he acknowledged Roman, not them. He said they should worry about LA Knight. He said he’s talking about the family and they’re back here doing nothing. Jey stormed off. Jimmy said, “Group text, then.”
-They showed Knight backstage walking with a mission. [c]
-They showed fans writing messages on a banner outside the arena.
-Knight made his entrance. He said on Friday he’s going through all “four” of his opponents and going on to win KOTR and face Reigns for his title. He said Reigns is a guy whose empire is on the verge of crumbling and he’s keep everyone trapped in a Bloodline vortex. He said he expects the Bloodline to come out to help Jey win on Friday. He said he doesn’t take orders from Reigns and he doesn’t fall in line to a Tribal Chief. He said if he goes on to win KOTR and he is facing Reigns for the title, then everyone in the Bloodline will be involving themselves. He said Adam Pearce will let it all happen. He said there’s a difference in how he deal with him compared to Roman. He said he might be unchosen by management, but the fans chose him. He said he also chose himself, which means he has done it his way. He said he doesn’t know how to stop.
Jey made his entrance. Graves said Jey’s temper hasn’t been his strong suit lately. Cole agreed. Fans went nuts for doing Jey’s dance. Jey walked up to Knight, but put the mic down and “ran it back.” Knight asked if he actually expects him to stand there and watch that. Fans booed. Knight asked Jey why he interrupted him. Jey said when his family calls him, he answers the call. Jey said he’s still the arena shaker and he’s still Main Event Jey Uso, and on Friday, he’ll show him who he is. He called this his warning shot. Jey’s music played again. Cole said Jey put Knight, Finn Balor, and Royce Keys on notice as well.
Knight interrupted Jey’s theme. Fans booed. He said he understands it’s fun to do and he doesn’t fault them for booing him. He told Jey he has misunderstood who he is. He said he understands he’s passionate and loyal to his family. He said that’s how a good man should be. He said Friday, he wants to wish him good luck, but then closed, “All the way from top to bottom, screw your family!” He threw the mic down. Jey didn’t like that and marched back to the ring. Jimmy ran out and pulled Jey away.
-They cut backstage to Gable approaching Rey and Lee. Lee said they’re good. Rey told him to stop beating himself up. He said at one point, he wanted to knock his head off his shoulders, but after watching his mask vs. mask match, it was true Lucha Libre, so apology accepted. Rey said he’s known him for a minute and he’s not one to judge, but he might want to look back a little further because he’s said and done somethings he should regret long before he put the mask on.
(Keller’s Analysis: I’ve wondered if they’re heading toward Gable apologizing, but eventually ending up as a heel, and that could be a hint of Gable eventually tiring of his apologies not being enough or eventually revealing they were insincere. I also wouldn’t rule out it was simply Rey pointing out Gable has more to make amends about, such as with Alpha Academy, and that’s all there is.)
-Penta made his entrance. [c]
(3) PENTA vs. REY MYSTERIO – Intercontinental Title match
Rey’s entrance took place. Cole said he’s looking to win his third IC Title. He ran through his history of title reigns and big match wins. The bell rang 36 minutes into the hour. Rey went for an early 619, but Penta moved. Rey landed a springboard flip onto Penta at ringside. He acknowledged fans cheering as they cut to a commercial. [c]
Penta landed a running flip dive onto Rey at ringside. Penta gave Rey a backstabber for a two count. Rey went for a sunset bomb off the ring apron, but Penta held on. They battled at ringside. Fans were singing as Rey landed a sliding sunset bomb at ringside into the barricade. They cut to another break at 7:00. [c]
Rey leaped onto Penta’s shoulders, and bent backwards. Rey landed on his head. Cole thought it was a Poison Rana attempt. Graves said it was tough to tell who had the worse landing. That looked bad, but Rey seemed okay. He hit a 619 and then landed Drop the Dime for a two count at 11:00. Rey landed a 619 a minute later and then leaped off the top rope with a splash attempt. Penta lifted his knees. Penta then gave Rey a Mexican Destroyer for the clean win. Cole called it a classic and a dream match.
WINNER: Penta in 13:00 to retain the IC Title.
(Keller’s Analysis: It was a nice a match for sure, but not a classic, as Cole called it.)
-As Penta talked with Rey afterward, Ethan Page and Rusev jumped them. Dragon Lee ran out for the save. Ethan got the better of Lee and whipped him into the time keeper’s area. Rusev then yanked off Rey’s mask. Penta covered Rey’s face as Rusev raised the mask in the air. Ethan stomped away at Penta. Gable charged out for the save. He dished out German suplexes to Ethan and Rusev. Penta and Lee carefully helped get the mask back on Rey as Gable applauded. The luchadors stood and eyed Gable, as if trust wasn’t fully established, but they seemed appreciative.
-A vignette aired with Raquel Rodriguez vowing to win Queen of the Ring.
-They showed Talla Tonga backstage. [c]
-They showed more scenes of Paris, France. Cole called it an incredible European tour. They reviewed the dates in the UK, Spain, and Italy prior to France.
-A vignette aired with Iyo Sky talking about QOTR.
-Cole and Graves hyped Iyo vs. Raquel in the QOTR semi-final, Roman Reigns appearing, and Oba vs. Dom.
-Roxanne Perez apologized to Liv for her behavior last week after being down about getting knocked out of the QOTR tournament. She said she was rooting for Liv now. Liv accepted her apology. Dom and JD walked in and said their plan for Oba didn’t work. Liv said she had a plan.
[HOUR THREE]
-Seth’s ring entrance took place. [c]
(4) SETH ROLLINS vs. RICKY SAINTS vs. TALLA TONGA vs. JE’VON EVANS – King of the Ring opening round match
Saints made his entrance. Evans came out last. The bell rang 9 minutes into the hour. Saints held Evans so Talla could slap him. Talla then hit Saints. Talla cleared the ring of all three opponents, including pressing Evans over his head and tossing him into Saints and Seth below. They cut to another break at 4:00. [c]
After the break, Seth got in his obligatory dive through the ropes, but it failed to faze Talla. Seth and Saints worked together briefly to knock Talla over the barricade to the floor. When Talla stood, Evans leaped off the ring onto him in the time keeper’s area. Saints and Seth returned to the ring.
Seth and Je’Von then went back and forth with rapid-fire exchanges. Evans countered a buckle bomb attempt by Seth and then set up a dive, but Saints intercepted him with a boot. Saints then hit a Revolution DDT for a two count. Evans knocked Saints off balance on the top rope and then landed a Spanish Fly. Seth ran into the ring and gave Evans a Pedigree. Talla entered the ring and set up a Talla T-Bomb, but Seth blocked it. Seth ducked a charging Talla. Saints knocked Seth to the floor. Saints set up Roshambo on Evans. Graves corrected Cole’s pronunciation. Evans threw Saints to the floor and landed a flying dive onto all three opponents at 12:00. Fans applauded.
Saints blocked an OG Cutter attempt. Cole talked about how impressive he was in the match. (So he’s taking the fall.) Talla gave a triple powerbomb to all three opponents, but Evans landed on his feet. Talla caught Evans with a clothesline. Seth broke up the cover with force and Evans lifted his shoulder. (They’re much better about pin break-ups tonight than they’ve been in a while.) Talla shoved Seth over the top rope by his throat and pursued him. Talla cleared the announce table.
Evans leaped at Talla, but Talla caught him and gave Evans his T-Bomb. Seth landed a Stomp on Talla on the table. He returned to the ring and went for a stomp on Saints. Saints avoided him and went for a Revolution DDT. Seth then landed a stomp. As he made the cover, Austin Theory yanked the ref out of the ring to stop the count. Montez Ford attacked Theory at ringside and they fought into the crowd.
Breakker then gave Seth a spear in the ring. Cole noted there are no DQs in this match. Saints crawled over for the cover, but Evans intercepted him with an OG Cutter for the win. Cole really emphasized that The Vision cost Seth his chance at the title.
WINNER: Evans in 16:00 to advance in KOTR.
(Keller’s Analysis: Fun match. Maybe this will also change some people’s habits online when it comes to trusting click bait “guess-news stories” where a “scoop” leads to a lot of revenue for the author and his corporate website boss, but it’s based on nothing reliable and wastes your time. I made clear last week that the reports of how KOTR was going to play out were not true.)
